Th e mil kman, J im Nosek , on his twin kept waiting fo r San Diego 's s tar Bill Cain t o ma ke a mistake in the 2 50 Expert half-mile but he never did. Mike Min n in g cam e o u t, after a lon g leave of ab sence, and did his th in g in the 125cc Expert goes. Well, almost did his thing. On the TT Mike led up un ti l the last lap before Tidwell found an openin g ( .. " . an d go t by t o snatc h th e go ld away. On th e hal f-mile it was a differen t story wi th Mr. Min ni n g getting o ut on to p and pulling ou t all the stops . Wayne Rainey ano ther h ot sh oe go t bet wee n the Mikes an d al though he p robably fel t li ke he was be tween a ro c k and a har d spot main tai ne d his p ositi on and held on to second. Amateur rider Danny Perkins deserves a well done for the fine pe rform ance he turned in riding against th ese yo ung stars . Mike Tidwell had no problems winning th e 250cc Expert Twin half-mil e stretchin g out enough of a lead to stop and have co ffe e. Coron a ac e J im Wright proved it 's still his backyard as he ran awa y with the 750cc half-mile. Jim was clocked at 22 seconds whi ch puts him in th e elite club with last wee k's win ner J ohn Allison . Dennis. Briggs and Bria n Garcia played change p ar tn ers , with Dennis ch an ging at the right time for the second. . Eddie Drake had an extremely pro fitable eve ni ng win nin g th ree o ut of fo ur and ge tting third in the fou rth . The 10 0 cc Novice and half-miles were the easy wins and the 125cc Novice goes looked li ke they would be an in stan t rep lay until Fre d Co nove r and J eff Wrigh t bu tted in and re arr an ged the finish . J e ff, wh o . already had a second from a close race with Fred on th e TT, fo und himself in the same com pany again on the h alf-m ile only rearranged. To the fr on t of him was Freddie and to the rear he had Eddie. Jeff didn 't los e his c o ol an d hel d on to pick up his second with Freddie first. Jim Roach also went hom e with t wo of those little go ld sta tues as he won th e 25 0cc Novi ce T'I' and finished second on . th e hal f-mile. Bobbie Hu nter o ur res ident y o ung lad y c ollected second on the TT and the way her Dad helped on the side lines, he had to be m o re worn o ut when it was over than Bob bie . Mike Stewart with his funn y lookin g No . 69 n umber plate wo n th e first o n th e half-m ile. Eddie La wso n was reall y cooking wit h his Cooper in the 250cc Single Expert half-m ile and they had trouble keeping him in sigh t. Gre g Zehner who keeps ge tting better every week ran second but it was not too h ar d to ta ke when he parlayed t hat in to a win on the balf-mile Expert Single. Dennis Agu irre cap tured the Open Novice T'I' and was lead in g th e half-mile sem i when he wen t in to turn one to o ho t an d los t it . As Denny p ut it , he neve r did thi n k he was going to q u it slidin g an d al though he didn't lo o k an y th e worse fo r the wear, his bike di d n 't fare as well an d had to be re ti red . Racin g rival Rick Bird to o k- ove r the hon o rs for the hal f-m ile.
