Cow Mountain hassles The Lake County Board of Supervis ors has accepted the Lake Coun ty ORV Advisory Co mmittee's First Report on Cow Moun ta in. Th e rep ort raised sever al qu estions rega rding the BLM's present ati on of vandalism. trespass and resource damage, an d also p resen ted several obj ection s to a pr oposal by the BLM to "close" Cow Moun tain to pu blic access fo ur days out of seven . Th e Repo rt also requested a reso lu tion from the Lake Co un ty Board o f Sup er v i s or s t o Washin gton con gressm en ur gin g passage o f a b ill sim ilar to th e Sisk -Johnson Act wh ich wo uld allow th e BLM to fund fo r police pro te c t ion t h r o ug h local sh eriff's depa rt m en ts. Th e BLM h as ab andoned the four -day closure p lan , but will restrict ORV op eration to road and " mar ked" trails. Users of the Cow Mountain area are urged to contact Ron Sch mitt at P.O. Box 964, Luc ern e, CA 9545 8 to assist in exp loring old trails and developing new ones. Michel Combes, the Frenchman who developed Montesa's 125 machine, has moved onto the 500 class. He was riding a 351cc in the opening round of the world championship in Switzerland. In the first race he finished 15th and in the second he retired with broken Bilstein rear shocks.
