Bob Plumb (Mai) of Sal t Lake wail ed on the 250 Experts in th e first m o to and was reduced to pl u ggin g alo ng in the back of the pack because o f a motor which didn 't want t o wind up . Ric k Holm es (one of Idaho 's fas test MXers) was sticking right by Plu mb's tail when a similar fate st ru ck his YZM. Ken Medley (Hon) wo n the class because he didn't water out and finishe d t wo motos with some consistency. It was q uite a chore, The motocross and its te rri ble weather m ad e eve ry o ne very dubious · ab ou t the TT on Sun day, but Mert Lawwil l was th ere in the clubh o use and said in a taped in tervie w th at he would be riding if the tra ck didn 't get any more rain and di dn't start to break up . Mert was th e firs t man o n the track fo r time t rials an d ran a 22 .558 fo r fast time of the day. Mark Williams had seco n d fastest time with John Hateley close behind. In th e Trophy Dash; it was . Williams all th e way with Ha teley , R an dy Skiver and Mert fo llowing him in . Fast Junior time was se t by Dan McWho rte r (Yam ) with a 23. 61 6. (Which would have p u t him in th e top 10 Experts.) Brad Hu rst too k t he Junio r Main with J ames Wright an d Steve Eklun d right be hin d him. Portlan d, Oregon 's Dave Ho war d (Tri) got m ixed up in a crash in his- heat race and failed to m ak e his transfe r. There was also a fairly serious crash in the Junior Semi with one rider requiring a ride to the h ospital afte r a spectacular double-over-the-big-corner with another racer.
