Danny laPorte was an early 250 Pro threat. Staten, Bell and Rubly pocket CMC dollars By Andy Hayt qWINE, CAL., APR. 20 1 328 riders invaded Saddleback 'Park for CMC's S1000 purse motocross. Due to the large rider turnout the 34 races were cornpleted after a total of nine hours. Bill Rubly, CMC points leader, won the 500 Pro class for the sixth straight week in a row. Rubly (Mai) who led the first moto, was never challenged for the lead and wen t on to take the checkered flag. Jeff Eierstedt (Bul) started and finished in second place while Jon Derhammer (Yam) took third. In the first 250 Pro moto, Bob Stem CZ) led at the start and was pursued by anny LaPorte (Fra) , Dave Pessy (Mon) d Rex Staten (CZ). LaPorte took over he lead on lap t hree, while Staten oved into second after passing Pessy , taten got by LaPorte on lap six and en t on to take the win. Bob Hannah Hus) was second and Stem took third lace. Bruce Baron grabbed the lead in the econd moto for one lap, but LaPorte ook over the first position on lap two. en Rex Staten passed Baron on the ownhill and went by LaPorte as he slid ut in a tum.
