At th at point Bill Grossi took o ver seco nd and s ta rt ed to ch ase Ho werton. Grossi tri ed to keep up wi th th e grue ling pa ce but it was t o o m u ch fo r him . He fell on th e last lap an d lost second pl ace t o DiStefano. Wein ert had mechanical problems in the last part o f the race and fin ished o ut of th e money. Pierre Karsma kers put on a spi rited charge a ft er getting o ff to a bad sta rt, but his chain started giving him problems o n t he ninth lap and he went o ut. After his fall Ellis worked his way ba ck up t o fourt h . posi tio n and fini shed third overall.
