Seven and Harley-Davidson factory team rider for 12 years, has designed and is building Harley-Davidson racing frames. These frames, available beginn ing April 15, incorporate the same design , materials, and detai l construction Lawwill uses in his own racers . The frames , individually built under Lawwill's personal supervision, are co nstructed from SAE 4 I 30 chrome-moly tubing and heli-ar c weld ed by a certified wel de r. The weigh t of the frame and swin garm is on ly 25 pounds, 25 % lighter than the fact ory XR raci ng fra me and swi ngarm . T he fra mes are built to fit th e Harley-Davidson XR, XLR, and Sp ortster motor. Street co nversions are also availab le. High School Mo tocro ss co mpetition at Ascot Park fina lly resu med its Novices goes. Riding one o f t he largest clas ses of th e eveni ng David d idn 't do it th e easy way, h aving to work his way through the pac k and hold o ff a str ong challenge by Dylan Neihart who ra n secon d in bot h classes. Missing from th e pac k was re gular fron t runner Fre d Co no ver who wen t out with a seized bi ke ea rly in th e evening. On e of th e most excit ing races of t he nigh t had to be the 25 0cc Expert single divi sion Half-mile. Winner Gr eg Zehne r had his ha nds full with Mik e Thomsen who th ought he wa s Gre g's Sia mese twin an d for all pract ical purp oses they ra n th at w ay thro ugh all eight lap s with eac h o nc inching ahead o nly to be th warted by th e o t he r. In the en d Greg came up wit h a little ex tra and pulled it o ff. Mike TIdwell was reall y ro ta ting as he picked up an other d ouble win , first with his single in t he 250cc Expert sho rt t rack and ad d ing th e icin g with his 250 cc twin on the Hal f-mile. Eddie La w s o n , te am mate and rival, to o k sec on d on t he sho rt track with Co rona ace Terry Grin ner getting the nod o n the Ha lf-m ile . Fairly new to the win ner 's circle is J o hn DeB ru yn wh o also h it for tw o in th e 250cc No vice sh ort track an d Ha l f -mile. Mike Stewart and Gen e Woods had the bridesmaid honors. Second pla ce Chuck Bittle tried to change th in gs o n the half-mile but co uldn 't hang on to the lead for th e distance . Dennis Agu irr e riding with a hand twi ce its normal size got quite a surprise in th e Open Novi ce Half-mile sem i when a yo ung lady , Nancy Parks, ca me busting by him and stay ed there to win it . In the third ma in he made sure he got some help from Dee Toth q ual ifie rs fo r the Colis eum High School Motocross Cham pionship. In last Saturday 's co m pe t iti o n EI Monte's David Taylo r scored his sixth co nsec u tiv e overall win "in th e high school co m petition. However, last Sa tu rday was Taylor's roughest test yet as Up lan d IIigh 's Ti m Hoover gave Taylo r all he could ha ndle. In th e openi ng mo to in th e 125cc Expert class, Taylor an d Ho over bat t led fo r 10-laps with Taylor holding o ff Ho over fo r th e win . Ho over returned in th e sec o nd moto to ba ttle Taylor, as Taylor to ok the lead at th e st art. Hoover was n ot to be denied . i as Tim pa ssed Dave o n t he fif t h lap , and ran away with th e win. It was t he first time this season at Ascot t ha t Tay lor had been d efeated in a mo t o with out a me chanica l d ifficul t y . En tering the third mo to both Tayl or an d Ho o ver were t ied in the ove rall points, as eac h had co llec ted a firs t and a second place finish. At the start Ho o ver got the j um p o n T ayl or, bu t no t for lo ng as Dave flew by Hoover for t he lead . Fro m t hat p o in t, Taylor pulled away fr o m t he rest o f the field to take an easy vic t o ry in the fin al moto, and th e overall class ho nors fo r the six th straight t ime. Hoover fin ishe d second overall wit h Vince Van Ho ok o f So ut h Hills High taking th ird . In the 125 Ju niors, Ste ve Moo re of Long Beach Jordan High score d .his fou r t h straight overa ll win , as the Honda rider has proven by far to be the su peri or rider in the 125 Jun io rs. Mo or e t oo k th e top positions in two of th e three IO-lap motos, and also co llect ed a sec o nd plac e finis h in the fin al moto . In the opening race , Moore was o ut front from sta rt to fi nish with second goi ng to Wilson High's Jim Carlson and third to Art esia's Marty Smith. The s ec ond moto was almost a car b o n-cop y of th e fir st, as Moore was just too quick for the rest of th e line up, an d he took th e easy victory. Jim Gallagher of Ca rson lligh pl aced second with Honda-mounted Don Miller of Hamilton Junior High taking third. In the final rnoto, Gall agher took th e top spot with Moore in the second notch and Miller third. • Results in Result s Section.
