Andrews CH ULA VISTA, CAL., AP R. 4 One hundred fifty riders showed up for the season opener at Southbay Speedway . The Pro classes did not have a very large t ur no u t due to the National at Hangtown, but the No vice and Intermediate classes were pa cked with many riders. The first 250 Pro race was led by Randy Burns (Yam ) who held off Gary Standridge (CZl for the win . St andridge finished in second pla ce and Mike McCowen (CZ) was third. In th e second round Randy Burns onc e again got th e jump at th e st art, op en ed up a big lea d an d to ok th e win. Standridge took seco nd after battling it o ut with I\IcCowen. It looked as if Randy Burns had th e ove rall win , bu t in th e fin al round he crashed o ff th e starting lin e and finis hed in the back o f th e pack. McCowen took the ch ec kered flag and th e win whil e Standridge grab bed the second spot. St andridge's co nsi stent second place finishes earned him the overall win. Ken Frost (Pen ) dominat ed th e 500 Pro class . Frost won all three motos, and Robert Beredy ck (CZl took sec ond overall after finishing second in each rnoto. Dennis Curtis (Hon) sprinted away fro m the rest o f the pa ck and won th e first 125 Pro mota. Tony Wanket (Hon ) fo llowed in second and Steve Langdo n (Hon) took third. Tony Wanket won the second round w hen he grabbed a big lead off the start . Curtis took second and Langdon trailed in third place. In the fin al round of the I25s, Curtis led Wanket from start to finish, and picked u p the overall win . Steve CARLSBAD, CALIF., APRIL 6 Due to the rain and mud there was a low turnout for the AJ\'1C motocross. The first m oto for ea ch gro up lasted 10 minutes be cause of rain. The second moto ran for 15 minutes as th e rain had stopped . Many of the riders took rain-checks instead of going out onto th e co urse to fight the mud. There was o nly two groups of riders. the 125 class and th e 25 0 and Op en cl ass comb ine d. In the first moto Ken Roush (Hon) took an early lead an d held it onto t he finish, Joseph Ruffino (Hon) stayed close for a second finish ; Steve Arn old (Hon) took a third. Mike Palhegyi on a fast CZ took two firsts in the 250 Exp ert mot os that he rode. Bob Griswold on a Yamaha had to leave his second moto with a broken handlebar. Van Hook 's two closest foes in points are 25 0 Junior winner Ro y Hol sheimer (Mai) and 125 Junior Div, IV winner Dan Hendricks (Mai) wh o each scored
