Dave Longcor (Hus) along with Ru ss Powell (Pen) were some of the busier riders. entering both the 250 and 500 Pro races. Powell a nd Longcor virtually stole t he show in the 500 Pro race. Powell pulled out in front going u p th e long st art hill. Longcor was back around the mi ddle of th e 2 0 -rid e r pack . For s eve ra l l aps Powell rode wit h no co m pe t itio n . b ut Lo ngcor was o n the way up .With ab o ut four laps to go Lo ngco r started gaining o n the smooth Penton rider. Dave stayed tig ht on Powell fo r t wo la ps an d then he fo und an opening and j ust went by. Powell was caught lo o kin g. Po well again jumped t o the front in the second m o t o , but th is tim e Longcor was caught way ba ck in traffic. Powell rode perfec tly n ever go ing fas ter th an he needed to. After n umerous pi le-ups on the slick surfac e , Tom Rapp (Bul ) and Jim Turner (Bu l) were th e two riders o ut fron t who actually looked pretty fas t in the sea of dark mud. Turner, back from a d isappointing th ree weeks in the Yamaha Super Series. was pushing Rapp hard waiting for a cha nc e to ge t by. He soon did, and proceeded to open up a sizeable lead. Back furthe r, Dave Longcor (Hus) was busy again tr ying to keep Russ Powell (Pen ) at bay. Turner met with bad lu ck in the seco n d race w hen the sp lines o n his co un ter-shaft sp ro c ke t bro ke . Turner was m ad to say the least. Tom Rapp was out front , pretty m u eh by hi mself. Longcor was again charging ha rd bac k in second pl ace . Also doing extremely we ll in spite o f the co n dit io ns was Char ley Halcomb (H us) from Moore and Sons in Santa Cr u z. Halcomb, who was usin g so me new nit ro gen gas fo rks fro m th e Moto-X Fox on h is new Husky said th ey wo rked ex ceptionally well. Dave Lo ngco r never got cl ose enough to get by Ra pp , bu t his two sec o nds wer e good eno ugh for th e o vera ll.
