Ms. Starr Kimpston was on her way to becoming the star of the 100 Beginners class after taking a first and a second when her chain came off while leading the third mota . This gave talented Kevin Garlick the edge he needed to wrap up first with two seconds an d a third on his first day of racing and gave Vi ctorville High another 825 points for their ed ge over Apple Valley. The cl osest ra ce o f the day was th e Op en Novice race between Bul mounted John Gibbs and Su zuki mounted Karl Wilson. At the be ginning of the third mota they were tied, each with a first and a second, when J ack Boone got his new Yamaha fixed in time to grab the top spot from both of them. Joe Miller took second in the third moto leaving Karl third and John fourth giving Karl en ough points to take first place honors. Results in Results Section. No heat(s) atElsinore By Andi Gangewer ELSINORE, CAL., MAR. 15 It was a beautiful but cold, night at Elsinore and though the classes were small and only motos were run, the races were none the less exciting. In the 125 Amateur/Expert class the competition was tough all the way . The Amateurs started in front of the Experts, but this didn't seem to bother the winner Charles Summers who blasted off the back line as if he was riding a rocket. Gordie Kidd took three seconds and Paul McPherson, an Amateur, finished third overall. All three hot-shoes were riding YZs. In the 250 Amateur/Expert race, Gregg Whilhite an Expert fro m San ' Bernardino brought in two wins. The n umber one ranked Expert from San Diego County, AI Glover to ok two seconds and a first . This super fast race was scored separately and Greg Zamora aboard a Maico to ok home the Amateur trophy with Gary Feener getting the second spot. Gregg won the first place honors in the Ex pert class. The Special Expert class was really a m ixture o f bikes an d rid ers . The bikes ra nge d from a 125 to a 5 00 with no tw o cycles with the same ccs, AI Glo ver ended up with th e top honors wit h his two wins ' and a th ird. Billy Payne an d Will Harper (o n Revell 250 CZs) seemed to find it OK as Payne led an d Harper won both 250 Expert motes. Don Hansen ran third in both o n a Revell's Maie o to finish second overall after Payne lost a chain in the first heat and went he avily to eart h trying to cut a co m er line tighter while lead ing the second. National No. 61 Eddie Co le showed up on one of Steve 's Bultaco s to ride the 125 Expert class and put th e littlest Pursang and himsel f into fir st overall with smooth quic k rides. No n -p r o c lasses, riding for 3 0% trophies, were marked by Steve Dalley 's co m ple te runaw ay in the 250 Beginner motos with wire -to-wire wins three times out and AME regular minibiker St eve Schmitz's sim ilar performan ce over a small field o f Mini Exp erts o n a YZ 8 0.
