I know that when yo u get 1400 en tri es , yo u are bound to have so me pi t raci n g and some racin g on th e co urse. St ill, the clubs should do every thing they possibly can t o alleviate th e p roblem . This inc ludes disq ualificatio n for riders fo un d pit racin g. I'm no t p reachi ng disqualifica t ion as a cu re-all, but o nce ride rs fo und out that pit racing was no t goi ng to be tolerated by th e sponsoring club, th en I ser iously bel ieve the incidents o f pit raci ng would dr op trem en dously. Th e U RA had seve ral people o u t " pit racer huntin g" after th e event, and 1 ap plaud th em for t a kin g a step in t he right di rection, but stiffer en fo rcement of anti-pit racin g rules is needed. It is entitled " Sp ee dwa y " and 1 have attempted to capture the spirit of the speedway rider as he sets up for turn one. It stands about nine inches tall and is made from co p per tubing, nuts, bolts, washers, wire, old coathangers an d scrap metal lying around the shop. th e California Department o f Parks and Recr eation s. What's with S.A.M.? Aft er th e alleged MX at Asco t on J anuary 25 th we wonder wh a t is going on with J im Manning and S_A.M.? Af ter stressing safety at th e rid ers ' meeting t hey put every ride r atten di ng on t he co u rse at once for three lap s for TV. They allow ed two different riders to ride the same bike in the 125 Expert rnotos. Who gets the points? They let the kids have a "resounding" four laps in each of the last two motos and the advertised 10 minute first motos avera ged eigh t minu tes. They allowed riders to switch bikes. Maybe changin g from one Honda to another Honda is difficult to pick up but swit ch ing from a Honda to a Penton is not. Do they really have a set policy for qualifying fo r the Super Bowl of Motocross? If they do maybe it would be a go od idea to put it in writing so it doesn't ge t chan ged every week . A better wav would be to ha ve the rid e rs ride th e 'Ias t 10 or so miles with no previou s sch edu le. Just post th em o n th e co u rse as is n o w don e with th e kn own speed cha nges and key tim es. Th ey co uld s till use the second-hand at these c h ec ks an d it w ould se parate th e real tim e ke ep er s fro m the tag-alon gs.
