Ric k Weidman spent a lot of tim e o ut in fro n t b u t fell by th e wayside in th e fin al resu lt s. lie won th e first m ot a with Mitch Simmons an d But ch Waymire push in g him to th e wire an d Rick Burgett b ack in fourth. Simmons fini shed with a broken sh oc k. Weidman led the second m ota until he went down on a n infield tum. Waymire had trann y problems and didn't st art th e second race. Simmons went off the side o f th e Pu yallup jump on the scratch a nd pu sh ed o ff in the next lap wit h mechanical problems. Randy l\lc Allister led m o t o two unt il Burgett took over a nd again go t o u t in fron t by a bo u t half a lap . He had cased up e no ugh for fun an d games wh e n the o ld Spanish b ugaboo hit. There's just so meth ing ab o ut Ric k, a Bultaco an d a c hec ke red flag - t he Bult aco d ied extremely dead. They tried it again By ·Marty,Gregory MAR SING, IDAIIO, JAN. 19 The Lions Sight Fund got a help ing hand from the ru gged Idaho cro ss-co untry folks this Sunday with the p ro ceeds fro m ent ries fo r th e Eu ro pean sc ra mbles goi ng to help the bli nd. Abou t 85 determined individ ua ls turned o ut t o ru n the event which was re-sch eduled from j a nu ary 5 when " a small blizzard" kept the race fro m com ing off. There was n't any snow th is t im e b ut t he re was fog ! Being Id ah o , I guess y o u 'd ca ll it "pota to soup." Ru n ove r a 1-0 mil e course situated so uth of t he to wn of Marsin g (so me 3 5 m iles from Bo ise) , th is was a repea t of a similar eve nt held las t yea r. Riders gene ra lly enjoy this type of race al thoug h t he ch ill at m o sp here and fog mad e th in gs a bit di fficu lt . Vision was limi ted to 4 0 o r 5 0 feet wh ile stat io na ry and decreased c ons iderably wit h spe ed . Payo ff was a righteous 50 percent with 100 perce n t con ti ngencies d onat ed b y local mercb ants. Cases of oi l, socket set s, shirts, gloves and lots o f other ne at th in gs were di spensed to all present at the tr ophy presentation held do wn at Mar sin g Higb Scbool . ... in side !
