There w as dancing, a nd 1 think wives an d al l were there. An argument started over Suzy Rover (this is a bit vague ) and th e conc erned parties went outside. A beer bottle was accidentally broken during a backswing, and the follow-through resulted in someone getting cut on the neck. It bled bad enough to panic the b ottle-holder who, like any good racer, ran an d got the duct tape. Applied to the wounded party 's neck, it pretty well stopped the bleeding. 1 would never think of going to a race without the grey tape, but 1 never knew you 'd need it at a dance, ~IARY LILL Ad verti sing Question: Duct tape for a slit throat? T he re was a good d eal of vari e ty o f up hill s , d own hill s, and differen t terrain, but I ca n't believ e As o n e rider of many who enjo y ed C. E. A.'s Last Chance En d uro , I'd like to de fend th e cl u b a nd the eve n t aga in st Ro n Schneider 's somewhat personal acco unt. As usual Ron's ap p e ti t e for h is own shoe leather kept h is account of th e run based aro u nd the reports o f a few sn ivel ers a nd a n eyewit n ess aco un t of a very short steep downhill section. Th e truth is that th e run was pretty well o rga n ized , laid out and carried off. A p at on the b ac k to th e C.E.A. instead of a black eye for a job well do ne. After all , an e nduro is supposed to be tough, no t a candy ru n testing the re liability o f your Ti mex . 1 know a lo t of other riders at the Las t Chance who had a good ti me and enjoy ed two d ays o f what a re al Southern California Enduro can be when it is put on b y a knowledgeable group. Let's h av e more like it ! 1 would lik e to report from a ri der's view , on the CRC Santa Claus En duro held De cember 8 . 1 tho ught th e checks were well hidden. The first lo op was very easy, as ad ver t ised fo r a family type enduro. The second loop was challenging, but not really that much, even for first timers like myself. As far as the price of the event, 1 don 't mind putting down $9.50 for a good run. But as far as I'm concerned, 1 didn't get my money 's worth. There was a lac k of chec ks, and CRC knew it , They were still 100 kin g for people to help run ch ec ks the morning of the event, Their excuse for the la ck of ch ec ks is t h at th e people that normally help were out ridin g th e even t . Now that is a pretty poor e xc use , 1 think. They also ran out of finishers tr ophies. Their ad said that they would have them the same d ay. For those that didn't get one, CRC says that y o u can get them a t their next enduro. 1 couldn't understand their results at all. I though en d uros were scored by points , but the results had nothing but you r time on it. How are you to know if this time is early, late, or both ? Also, th e rider's meeting sa id that you wo u ld be penalized one point for being late and t wo points for being ea rly. Is th is co m m o n practice for a n en d uro ? This w as my first enduro and if I'm wrong about anything I said, my apologies to CRC, b u t if so me things were co rrec t , 1 hope 1 made my p o in t . BRYON FARNSWORTH Santa Ana, Calif.
