Pete Peterson (Ho nj .made this week h is first Interm edi ate rac e an d ca me the closest of any o ne to chal lengi ng Carman . During the firs t mota Pete h eld him off for two laps until Carman slipped by. After th at Peter s on and In term ed iate Ron Cain (Suz) we ren 't to o far ba ck , but Carman was gradually leaving them way behind. In the seco nd mota Peterso n again fo und himself out in front fo r awh ile, until Carman 's relentless drive carried hi m past again after a co uple of laps. Cain on ce again fo llo wed Peterso n , while Paul lvie (Y Z) , who had retired early in .th e firs t mo ta wh en a crash dislodged hi s pipe, made up fo r lost time fro m another cras h this mota and held down second Junio r a sh ort ways behind th em. Fo r the final mota, Car ma n leaped into the lead, as could b e expected , and once more ran a flawl ess race to the finish . Pet erson wa s in t he familiar position o f pursuit, but Cain had dr opp ed o ut early wi th a flat tire . So lvie took h is pla ce and managed to make up for h is earlier DN F, b uilding up enough poin ts and co pping the th ird overall. Gary Cain (Han) wh o h ad been finishing just be hi nd the lead er s, took advantage of Ro n 's ;!lSenc e to slip in behind Ivi e a nd cinch u p the Intermediate second overall . • Resu lts in Results Section.
