Th e Rerno Pratini Maico took o ver the seco nd place chores whil e Vanderpo o l pulled o ut a good lead with Andy Whitaker in third a nd th e Dan Armstrong Honda in fourth. Ten laps fr om the en d the Pratini Maico expired giving Dave Frazier a brief glimpse at sec o n d wh ile Hayware Hain es mo ved in to fifth in fro nt of Dennis Silva. Then o n lap 45 the leader, Vanderpool stopped just past the finish line . Incredulously he had whiskered a plug again . Likely a part of the dusty situation. At any rat e, he lost the lead but only fo r tw o la ps . gett ing by th e Arms trong Honda with Dan Reill y sne aking in to th ird . • Results in Results Se ct io n. The first mota of the 25 0 Ex pert class was the most thrilling of th e day. Seventeen riders took off fro m the ru b ber band start. with Milan Garrett (Man) taking the lead . Not far behind was another Montesa rider. Parry Klass en. closin g the gap , Every lap Klassen was getting closer. until, on th e last half of the last lap . with no t even two seconds behind Garrett . Klassen ra n ou t of gas. Th e 3 0 minute mo ta proved to be too lo ng for th e amoun t of gas Parry put in his tank. The crowd was goi ng crazy . In the seco nd mota . Garr e tt won eas ily . whil e brothers J ac k and J im Fra nklin were fighting for second place. Jack Franklin (Han) got the second . whil e bro ther Jim (Hus) los t th ird to Parry Klassen (Man) who moved fro m th e back of the pack. and ea ch lap worked h is way up a few places . In the 400 Expert class . Ro n Bass (Su z) took both mo to s, for an easy overall win . an d Jerry J o h nso n (Bul ) took two seconds. A new class. Veterans and Old Timers. probably had the most fun all da y . The Vet erans was won by Gil Vasquez (Ha n) . who sh owed them all the way ar o und th e track both m o t o s. Close behind. though. was Old Timer Robert Em ler (T ri) who was trying to scare Vasqu ez, b y th e di ff er ent sound of his boomer.
