Over a h un dred ride rs pre-en tered b ut the weath er , no doub t, had a great e ffect o n the rider t urno u t. Anyone who stayed away for fear t hey wo u ld get involved in a slo ppy mud rac e reall y missed a good rid e. Th e trac k wandered aro und th ro ugh a forest fo r about 1.4 m iles . There was a b it of everything - uphills, downhills, tight turns, off-camber turns, drop-off's, wa ter crossings , you name it. Even with the rain the wat er c ro ssin gs were the only place where traction became a problem . It's a pr etty tr ack and neat for riders but it's not the b est' for spectators and perfect ly terrible for nervous parents. There just isnt an y place to see mo re than a fraction of the tra ck and it took in the nei ghborhood of three m inutes to make a lap. Rand y Limbeck took ho me the big mo n ey in the o ne -twa-fives on h is Pow roll Ho nda, Ed Davis (Ho n) was in the lead in the first moto for th e mo ney when they red-flagged it at the end of two laps. It was feared a downed rider wo uld req uire the amb ula nce but by the time everyone got stopped he go t hi s wind back and was read y to go . On the rest ar t Jim West (lion) too k the lead wit h Ra ndy hot after h im. Ran d y mo ved up to the fro n t and West foll o wed in for second. Nick Ru ckm an (lion) moved up fro m a mid pa c k st art to nab thi rd . Randy and J im replayed the ac t for the second m o to but Marty Luppino sq ueezed his Ho nda in for second o n th is o ne . TI,e first 250 mo to found Chuck Sun (Bul) ou t front all th e way . Butch Waymire (Yam) trie d h ard to change th e o utco me and almost succee ded. He pu shed the en tire race an d o n the last lap the two came through the final wat er crossing close eno ugh for each to get t he other wet. Butch go t ca ugh t in a ru t on th e nex t tum and lo st just eno ugh tim e to settle h im in sec ond.
