I don't want to overstate the case. There were some riders, probab ly 15 , who got down the h ill without much trouble and even a few like Mike Hannon who did it with a fair amount of style. But it was a case where if y ou weren't skillful enough to ride it well, it was extremely dangerous to try it at all. And two thirds of the riders were B riders. To add to the problem, there was no Rescue group present at all . The club had an ambulance in the pits, but according to a club spokesman, no one ha d even considered what they wer e going to do if someone got seriously hurt o n the hill. If someone had been hurt it wo uld have take n a trained mountain crew or a helicopter to ge t hi m down to the road. Adding to the club's troubles was th e fact that th ey managed to stray o n to so me 2 7 miles of BLM fo rbidden territory for which they have been served a citation. In the ap proximate wo rds of the BLM ranger, they will b e "charged so much for every mile, so much fo r every bush destroyed an d fo r every lizard killed." Since the CEA is a small club, this co uld well bankrupt th em if the BLM decides t o be reall y tough abo u t it. With an additi onal class, an d both one- and two-day winners, scoring is com plicated and there are many winners, but at the momen t Mike Hannon is the overall winner and th e Class A Heavyweigh t winner. Hann on filed a pro test which resulted in two checks bein g thrown out and the club threw o ut a third (of 23 total) . With those alterations, Hannon had a score of -3. The Bultaco team of Bob St effan , Mike Hannon and Gerry Hoffer took the team award. In second overall and rust 250 A was Jerry Keas t on a 250 Penton. He lost -4. A Trail was won by DKW rider Mik e Wyrick. In the new "C" Class Tom Ryan won first overall and first 250 wi th - 2. G. Gennette won the Heavyweight Trophy in the " C" Class with -14. He rides a 360 Yamaha. C Trail an d B Class winners are no t kn o wn as o f press time. This is a difficult run to eval uate. Without doubt the CEA d id a go od th ing with th eir C Class. They also laid out an interesting ru n that riders for the mos t p a rt enjoyed . H owe ve r, considering " th at supe r-dangero us hill tha t their own club member could n't ride an d the schedule speeds th at no o ne co uld h old, in the ligh t of Dave Holeman's let ter entitled "Kill killer end ures," riders could be fo rgive n if th ey go t the idea that the CEA was playing games with them.
