Seco nd , the rid ing done by speedway riders during m e sea so n o n me regul a r SoCal tracks does no t require sh ifting the gears as it did a t Ascot , and third, the ri ders were go ing somewhere in me vicinity o f 80 to 90 MPH wh ich is a b o u t twice as fast as they ri de on any of the o ther tra cks. So all of this p u t toge ther is bound to make fo r a sh ow tha t may h a ve a co up le of hangups in it, being that it is a o nc e-a-year ven tu re . As fo r Sammy Tanner's p romotio n , fo r a race th a t had to be postponed and res ch eduled th e foll owing we ek, wh at more n eed b e said m a n lo o k at the size of th e cro wd th at sh o we d up? If Mr. Patterson was riding an unma r ked course , perh ap s h e was off our co urse or o n ano th er club 's co u rse . Also, if h e was riding open deser t o r a no ther cl u b 's co urse. why should he h old th e Cactus Ca ts res pon sib le fo r th e danger areas and ro ad crossings n ot being mar ked ? At n o point o n o ur course di d we use pin k ribbon . The riders' instructions clearly s ta ted to fo llo w o ran ge ribbon only . Not exactly O n No vember 24 we went t o SaddIeback to race AMC for m e firs t time. Contrary to their ad in Cycle News sa yin g their race was $5 plus $2 for non-members , they proceeded to rip us off for $ 10.
