All in all th e course was well laid out. There were a couple o f places which might have raised some controversy , however. First, there were a couple of mean bottlenecks just past the five mile check. The first was a short but difficult hill which pil ed up riders for long minutes and the second was a tigh t passage between a fo rmation of rocks which held up riders again . At both these places, no one, not even the best riders could find a bypass route . Then the course crossed a main, hard-topped road (possibly Route 41) where the only traffic control was a n enduro rider who stood with red handkerchief in hand waving the 'ride rs through the crossing. This migh t be a dangerous situation and at last year's Turkey Enduro there were club men with red flags keeping a close watch on road traffic and riders. The organizers did at least have signs posted at the approaches to the highway, but sometimes a rider is so involved in making up time or concentrating on the immediate surface in front of him that he misses things at times even the arrows. • Results pending. Second Annual Turkey Trials Murderer's Gulch By Clay Henry AUBURN, CAL., NOV. 10 Nestled in the American River Canyon area, just three miles outside of Auburn, California, the setting was terrific! The area includes everything you need for a super trials, deep river canyons, lots of river sand and rocks, with many deep, rocky gulches working their way down to the river! With 11 tough sections, a ding dong battle in the Expert class developed between Tom Masculine (BuI) and Steve Darrow (Yam). Darrow won with a 30 over Masculine's 37. Big Burly Bob Bertucci muscled his Bultaco over the 11 sections in a good 61 point effort. A terrific battle ensued in the Amateur class between George McHenry (Bul), Line Fulford (Bul) and Mike Anderson (Bul), with McHenry edging Fulford with eight cleans to seven while both circuited the course in a good 78 point effort. Anderson trailed closely with an 81. Novice "A" class went home with the results standing Gary Owens second and Make Parsons third, but a later rel ease came through with Norman Saylor (Bul) edging Gary Owens for second thereby throwing out Mike Parsons effort of 81. Mike Fenner (Mon) won the event with an excellent 66 points. Mark Daniels, Alpina, a senior in h igh school, won easily the Novice B class with an excellent 40 for the two loop, nine section course. The little guys and gals in the Kids class, Kevin Davey, Lance Saylor, and Jim Flewellan, all tied at 13 points with Dave y winning on the most cleans. Many of the top riders were in agreement that this was by far the best laid out and run meet of any of this summer's efforts. The loop was not a killer, making it possible for the riders • best efforts being concentrated on tough sections. Let's give a big hand for Wayne Conduit and his crew. A review of the sections might give the readers some ideas about this course. Number one was fairly easy with many cleans in all classes, it was mainly a long downhill with a sharp tum at the bottom. Two was a good section through a rough creek, slippery with a large lo g at the exit. Three was an excellent off cam be r run with many to ugh , tight turns . A killer developed at four with steep. off cam ber runs and another high log at 45 degrees near the exit. Psyching out was the main problem with number five, a sharp right hand tum thaI dropped you off into a deep hole. with lots of rocks drew many fives.
