Turner took the 125 Pros as well as the Open Pros while MacDannald took the top honors in the 250 Pro class. Today was also the debut of Interscholastic Association of Motorsports headed by Russ Sanford. The lAM is organizing high school racing in northern California. At Dixon riders were going up to qualify for the Trans-AMA race in Saddleback, Don Davis took the early lead in the first 125 Pro moto with Danny Turner and Chuck Goodrich in pursuit. Coming down the downhill on the third lap, Turner took the lead as he went to the outside around Davis. Husky rider Cloyse Holland had moved up from a mediocre start to third. Turner was safely in the lead as the front three riders pulled away from the rest of the field. Holland took over second only to crash and finish fifth: At the finish it was Turner, Don Davis and Bob Geffert third after a fine ride. jim Watson led the first few laps of the second moto for the 125 gang with Darrell Shultz and T urn er chasing him . Darrell Shultz took the lead when Watson went off the course putting Turner in second and Don Davis third. A few laps later Danny was in the lead all alone . At the end of the moto, Danny Turner had won with Shultz second and Bob Geffert third which is the way they finished in th e final sta ndi ngs. The 25 0 Pro class was d ivid ed in to two h ea ts with all th e rider s ru nning in th e second mo to toget her in a two row start. Neil MacDannaid (Yam) was th e early leader of the first hea t until he crashed giving the lead to Tom Rapp (Bul) . T raili ng Ra pp at the tim e were Brian jodry and Charles Halcomb (Hus). Neil MacDannald was not through yet. He was working his way up th rough the field and was soon in the lead again, this time for the rest of the race. Four riders, Kevin Henry, Billy Grossi, Ivan Miller and Mike Middleton fough t for the lead through the first lap of the second heat until Billy Grossi pulled out a slight lead over Ivan Miller. Grossi, recovering from his Superbowl injury seemed to be riding rather conservatively - something he doesn't do too often. Ivan Miller fresh off the Trans·AMA circuit took the lead from Grossi when Billy almost looped his Honda. The 250 final was anti-climatic compared to the . previous two heats. Neil MacDannaid took the lead with Ivan Miller second and Tom Rapp third. The three riders stayed that way for the entire 30 minute finale with Miller never getting his Penton close to MacDannald's monoshocker. Danny Turner on his big bore Husky took the lead at the start of the first Open moto with Mike Marshall second and Dick Mann third. Mann moved into second befo re the first lap was over and then took the lead when Turnerand his Husky went off the course. Mann and his BSA were thumping away with a good lead over second place rider john Thompso n and third place rider Mike Middleton. Danny Turner had remounted and had moved into the fifth place spot after his crash. Mann had his hopes of a moto win go as his rear tire went flat letting Middleton and his Penton into th e lead. Mike didn 't hold the lead for .lo ng as he los t it to Turner. Danny too k th e m o to win follo wed by Mike Middl eton with Craig Robinson in third . In th e seco nd moto Danny led the whole r ace with Dick Mann an d a new tube in his tire holdi ng do wn seco nd. Mike Middleton held th ird. Turner was just go ing fas t enough for the win and when the mo to was over three hundred dollars richer for his two clas s win. • Results in Results Section. Sunnyvale P.A.L MX By Steve Castill 0 SUNNYVALE, CAL., NOV. 3 Rudy Leon (Pen) came from behind to win both motos of the 250 Expert class on a hard and dry Sunnyvale track. The track was in really bad shape with smal l pebbles everywhere. Visibility was also a problem. Bill Kisich (Mai) and Russ Stanley (YZM) were out front first in the 250 race. Leon was back in las t place after a tangle in the firs t tu rn . Kisich started hounding Stanley but before he could attempt a pass his chain pa rted company. Kisic h got going but Stanley was lo ng gone. Meanwhile, Leon had started a charge that bro ught him quickly up thro ugh the pack. It wasn 't long before he started to hassle with Stanley for the lead. After a few laps of ho t dici ng Stanley started to get a little sloppy, losing it after so me sharp bumps. Leon was home free, with Stanley coming in for second . Stan ley and Kisich were ou t front
