A h er being assesse d 15 poi nts in the first lap, Leavi tt mad e an incredibly difficult course look easy as he totalled only 13 mo re poi nts in the last two laps. Excellent rides by top contenders de monstrated ho w this ne w series. formed by the Nort h American T rials Co uncil, has sharpened th e skills o f American trials competitors. Bern ie Schreiber (Bu l) netted 39 poin ts to ta ke second pl ace. J oe Gugliemd li, with a score of 4 5 , beat ou t Yam ah a team ma te Do n Swee t, wh o dro pped 42 po ints. Montesa teamster s Marti n Belai r an d Marl and Whaley , earned a fif th and seven th, wh ile Yamaha factory rider Bob Hopkins too k a sixth wi th 45 poin ts.
