After a lon g struggle wit h the opposition Greg Andrus o n a brightly colored Honda 750 Four was second overall, first in the Open class. On the final lap Rich ard Williams o n 's second place in the 350 class su ddenly disappeared - as did the air in his rear tire. AMA Ex pert Ru d y Galindo was entered in the 250 GP in an attempt to close the gap on Ron Pierce for the AFl\I Number One plate. Rud y led the opening lap, b ut was shoved ba ck to fifth by the nex t lap . "These northern guys have rea lly got this track wired," Rudy ex plained later. Eric Paloh eim o took the lead from Rudy , but J ac kBaker passed him a lap later as they came through the horseshoe.
