Baker had wo rked hi s way up to seventh , staying ah ead of Ho ward McC asland (400 Hus) who had mo ved up fro m 16th t o eig h th . Stum b o was real ly o n t he gas, runnin g in ni nth and ru nning away from every othe r smal l bike. The third lo o p produced more attrition and more surp rises . Wayne Garrett (360 BuI) had been th e last one to get a way at the start by at least .a coup le of minutes, he was now run ning in sixth . Bak er, Cook a nd Hib bard dr opped out .
