WJ Carrillo clinches Fremont title Recommended reading .f rom Cycle News Products By W. H. Spencer FREMONT, CAL., SEPT. 13 F if teen-year-old Steve Carrillo clinched the Fremont Raceway Short Track title "tonight with a win in the 360 Expert Main over Ken Dalla and AI Kenyon. The Yamaha speedster brokefrom the pack early and passed first lap leader Dalla going down the front chute with no further problems to handily take the eight lap Main. Carrillo parlayed nine main event wins during the 25 race season in both Junior and Expert competition to take the overall title over Phil Howard and Gary Orlando with two races still to run. Rick Delacy wrapped up the 250 Expert class and added a few points towards his Number One White Plate contest. He had quite a battle with Ricky Graham and Dan Hogue, two fast young men from the south end of District 36. Ran d y Mamola, Chris Dinner and To ny Alves co ntinue to have a tremendo us battle in the 125 Junior/Expert combined with Mamola still doing the winning and Dinner on a hot streak for his part. Mini bike racing continues to astound all comers with some new winners in the 80 Novice . Joel Green nipped out newcomer Scott Alves in a good race long duel while Mike Randal continued to dominate the 80 Junior and Jimbo Filice wrapped up the 80 Expert class over Rick Ryan. • Results in Results Section. John Grant (Yam) was trying to get by Dietz's Bul as Moural lengthened his lead to twenty yards. Moura! went on to win with Dietz holding off Grant for second. Ernie Azevedo and Ben Osterello were the leaders of the first laps of the 360 Handicap. Steve Dietz passed Azevedo for second and then not to be out done, Moura! passed both Diet z and Osterello to take o ver. Diet z was determined to get Moural as he literally shoved his way past Osterello causing the Harley rider to fall. Dietz starte d to close in on Moural while John Gr ant took over third. Dietz closed it up in the com ers but Moural's bike would out power Dietz down the straights. Moural held on for first with Dietz and Grant again taking second and third. . In a special race for the benefit, a local car dealer donated a trophy and the top eigh t Experts at the track rode the special scratch event. Last year Dick Turner won .the race but this year it was Lowell Moural 's turn. Moural jetted out to an early lead which he held till the . finish . Cliff Hy lton led the 250 Experts th rou gh the first turn of their Scratch Main. Jim Hubbard to o k the inside line coming oUI and passed both Shane Scott and Hylton to take the lead. Hylton held off Scott for second. Novice 250 winner Tom Dean was the early leader of the 250 Handicap with Matt Jackson and Mike Hall trailing. When the pressure got to Dean, he slip ped out of the groove in turn two and Jackson took over the lead.
