National Championship weekend October 11 & 12 .Q) ... ...0 o -' u o This really is a tight section: Dar row hits some rough go ing. like to have an early nu mber - but not Nu mber 1. Still, that doesn't explain why most of the win ners today had late numbers. Order was strictly rando m, based approximately on or der of entry. And in a trials, a late rider may " play thro ugh. "If an early rider is walking the section, the first rider to show up at the start of that section on his ' b ike may ride through. T here was no spectator admission charge, and spectators lined the sections, cheering loudly when so meone zeroed a section, or made a spectacular recovery. Spectators could be a problem if the sport becomes more popular, however. Spectators on trail bikes, and in vans, cluttered the area, and some of the competitors were making tracks on the goaded roads, with occasionally poor visibility. There were no accidents that I know of but with more spectators. and less knowledgeable riders and spectators. there could be. . Trials is still a gentlemanly sport. If a rider spilled, or staIled within a section, he would be given five minutes to get going and co mplete the section, and the n wo ul d be asked to leave th e section. While . helmets were req uired gear o n those sections of the loop which co nsisted of public road, many riders still ride the observed sections sans helmet. Of note was the appearance of two new Honda 250c'c trials bikes, and a 125 Honda which 'was reportedly poked out to 162cc. • (Ed. note: ' J udging from the scores, it looks like everybody got socked with a time penalty.
