Snakes and "sprains" at Lake Mary Trials By Ga ry LaPlante LAKE ~IAR Y, ARIZ., AUG. I I T he first C.A.T. (Cen tral Arizo na Trials) po ints trials of t he ' 74-' 75 seaso n, dubbed t he Lake Mar y Trials, was held in the cool pines sout h of Flagsta ff, Arizona. The coo l te mperatures in the pines came as a welco me relief fro m th e 110 degree to 115 degree heat recorded "down" in Phoe nix . Every trials has a man that does m ost o f the work, better known as a Trialsmaster. This time it was Arizona Expert Eri c Eppard. Eric's known for his unortho dox rid ing style and beliefs on how se ctions should be set up . Neve r t he le s s "Bonzi" Eppard put together an event to be pro ud of. :\1any spectators turned out to see Arizona's finest trailers battle it o ut, The course was very short to allow the spectators to watch all 10 sections. Jus t before the trial, Southern California Suzuki star Jeff Koskie "sprained" his ankle p racticing. Jeff, rode the trial finishing second Master. Later he found out the ankle was really broken . Later a large number of rattlesnakes were uncovered in Section nine . T he critters were d ispose d of and th e day's events got underway. Master winner was Gary LaPlante losi ng 28 points. Second was J eff Koskie with 36 points.
