of a weary ride r.
At th e bomb, it was last week 's
winner Kevin liasten with the lead,
followed cl osely by Cordis Brooks and
Amateur To m Bullock . Shortly afte r the
bomb , Hasten ended h is chan ce for
anot her overall win by un lo ading. From
t hen on it was Cordis' race . Even Cordis
ate his share of d ust this weekend,
starting to lap the slower Novices going
out o n the second lo o p.

Bakken was n ot- too far behind Bro oks,
but by th e finish, could no lo nger see
his dust. Running third o ve rall fo r
a lm o s t a l l of the r a ce was the
mysterious Amateur on a 450 Kawasa ki,
Tom Bull oc k, This wa s the sam e guy
wh o fin ished with a ten minute lead
ov er the ne xt Novice last wee k, riding
pie plate on his fir st time out o n his new
bike. Unfortunately, a leaky air box
ended his finishing hopes, ha lfw ay
through th e last loop.
Dean Modess ett sta rted the ' i 4
racing sea son late into the ye ar, but is
looking to be a threat to Andy Kirker
for the number o ne plate in the I i5
class, as he ha s won the last three times
o u t. This week , running fourth o vera ll
through the pits o n the first lap , he let
Wayne Co ok an d Dave Laprik slip past
him on the next two times around.
Coo k ended up wi th a seco nd 250
Expert, thus adding to his points lead in
the 250 class by shee r co nsist ency .
Laprik also finishes high up in th e 250
class almost every wee ken d , wi th this
wee kend being o ne o f h is better r id es, at
four th overall, t hird 250 Expert.
Steve Sub it h is fas t becoming q uite a
threat in the Open class , prov ed b y t his
weekend's' fin ish at sixth o verall and
seco nd O pen Expert.
Bill Friant refreshed a few m em ories
this weekend, of how he was once the
king of the I i 5 class, by finishing
seventh overal l. second Division 11 rider.
Fo llowing Fri ant to the c hec ke red was

Smokebomb G aet z for third
heavyweight. You 'd think Smokebomb
had been racing desert since the fir st
desert flower ever bloomed, but he is
only 3 8. a nd is just sta rti ng to re ally get
into racing.
Next to finish were the third and
fourth 250 Experts, Doug Winc hell a nd
Tom Schmid . Art Knapp made up a lot
of time somewhere out o n the course, as
he was far back at the bomb, but by the
finish ended up l l th overall , fourth
Open .
Consistent Ji m Eveland pull off a
six th 250 Expert, after riding most o f
the second lo o p with his handlebars
fla pping in the breeze . Charles Hamill
(P en) fi nished u p in th e overall
positions, fo r first Trail Expert and no
n u mber p la t e , a ft e r u n lo a d i n g
somewhe re out on the second loop. He
was 'a lot luckier th an · Lar ry Ro esele r,
who u nloaded on t he way to the bomb,
an d b ro ke one ver teb ra .
