In the 125 Experts Tom Burt (lIon) go t a 1-2 t o take h is share o f th e mon ey. He was threaten ed by Mar k Miller (Hon ), o n his t ail most o f the way, but Miller wen t o ut of th e running due t o injurie s. To m Kar as (Ho n) exo rcized h is way in for seco nd and Jim Cupp (Ho n) d ropped in for thi rd. Tom Rapp won. In fact in both rn o t os, he had a lead of up to 15 seco nds over the seco n d place man. Kno w who was second? Al May on another Cooper! The crash. in the 2 50 class didn't seem to bother him a t all as he ga thered up a 3-2 combin ation to put it all togethe r fo r sec ond pl ace , wh ich is a fine co nso lat ion for his fourth in t he 250. lie wasn 't without his problem s as Pat Richter (CZ) was right in there behind him, and they did some swapping before the c hec kered came out. Pat was close to Al with a 2·3 sco re for t hird p lace. money . The turnout the DeAnza folks h oped fo r th eir first Pro l\IX t urned o ut much better th an they expecte d - to t he point o f be ing d isas trous. They survived it all. We'll let that o ne go by, while admitti ng th at t he "Breeze r" tire too l, in its idiot simplic ity, is a very handy little gadget, even if it is over pri ced. How ha ndy depend s on how often yo u change tires . The patent ed tool wo rks o n th e sa me principl e as a powere d tir e-ch an ger , on ly you provide the grun t with a hammer . Preferab ly a big hammer . To get a tire off, you just get the bead up with o ne regular tire lever. then insert the Bree zer and knock it around t he rim with a hammer . It cam s the be ad right up just like Up to Getting t he tire back o n , we j ust stu ffed th e tube back in , p oked wn . th e valve stem thro ugh its ho le . and without ta kin g an y precaut ions to keep folds of the tube o ut o f the way, knocke d t he tool aro und the rim again to ca m t he bead back down . Tidwell cap tur ed Main even t vict ories in th e 12 5 Expert TT and the 250 Expe rt Sho rt Trac k, as he defeate d hi s teamma te Eddie Law son o n th e TT and Rick Marquis o n the Sh ort T rac k. In th e 250 TT feature, Bru ce Reyn olds (Bul) , m a kin g his first appeara nce in som e time, got an ex cellent st ar t and was able to hold Tidwell and Marquis to take the victory . T id well's o n ly o th er defeat of the eveni ng c ame at the hands of his Y am ah a . o f Montcl air teamma te, 16 -year-o ld Eddi e Law son. Law son had a supe r battle with Tidwell during th e six-lap sho rt track I 25cc Expert fe ature, a s bo th rid er s ex changed leads through out the race with Law son fin ally holding off Mike.
