The victo ry was actually a lot easier for Ho cking th an the July 19 contest when he had to take Rob Morrison on the final turn. This time Ho cking and h is Yamaha p ulled away from the field after he t o ok the fr ont from DeWayne Keeter on the second lap . At the finish , John Ge nnai, another rookie, was sec ond , a good 2Y. seconds behind. Keete r, on Tom Horton's Yamaha instead of his Harley-Davidson, and Ed die Wirth, (on a Harley fo r the first time) .were the two veterans in the sta rti ng front ro w in th is rookie-do minated eve nt. Hocking had t he p o le with Gennai in t he No. fo ur slot and Bob Sanders in fifth. G ennai pulled ahead of Keeter on the seventh circuit, and Morrison took both Keeter and Wirth o n the eleventh to get hi mself in position for his third place finish. Morrison 's rerum to the field resulted from the withdrawl o f Charlie Thielke and ' Ro n Powell . On the third lap o f the Semi, Thielke and Powell slid into the hay bales on the so ut h turn. Morrison was leading a t the time, but couldn't restart a ft er the flag, and the latter paid got it tog ether eno ugh for transfer spots. That effort fin ished their machines for the evening, so Morrison ca me in as an alternate. Hocking won the Trophy da sh a nd th e fast Heat to score a sweep for the evening . ' Gennai and Ho c kie to ok second and third in the dash, with Keeter t railing. Alex J o r g e n s en continued h is do m ination of the Junio r d ivisio n.
