CYCLE NEWS TESTED MORE MOTORCYCLES
THAN ANYBODY LAST YEAR.
JUST ONE MORE REASON WHY
WE'RE THE ONLY WEEKLY PUBLICATION
IN THE BUSINESS: NO COMPETITION.
THAT DOESN'T REALLY HAVE
ANYTHING TO DO WITH THEIR WORTH,
ACCURACY, OR QUALITY, BUT
IT MAKES GREAT AD COPY.
Cycle News tested 64 motorcycles last year . .. plus one bulldozer, one road, fou r politicians,
a Reuben sand wich , a pickup
truck, and five one-offs. If we
get the chance, we might do the
same or even more this year,
except that getting another
interview with Ronald Reagan
may be tough. One thing
we're likely to do is to
provide an "alternate
perspective" on

motorcycling - different, distinctive, and biting - at least
as long as the monthly slick
magazines continue their
"Buy me - I'm swell!" subscription/ego-pump advertisements.
We don't have a bunch ~f
tricky digital go-fast electronic
gadgets like the Man uses ,
'cause what a black box says
doesn't mean the same as the
one thing that counts: what it
feels like to ride a motorcycle.
You know: wind in the hair,
dirt under your fin gernails,
no skin on your elbows.
Our "instruments" are the
men who ride, (not to overlook the women who rid e,
also) . The biggest thing that
sets them off is swell ladies but
what sets them apart from most
motoscribes is the fact that they
actually prefer to ride motorcycles. Incredible as it may
seem , not a single one of them
owns a German or Italian megabucks flash-car, preferring
Hondas and Nortons to
Mercedes and Ferraris. What
manner of mo to-jo urnalists are
these? Complete maniacs.
Th e editors of Cycle News
arc stoked on motorcycles. If
you want a bunch of unfolded,
unmutilated , and unspindled
punch cards, go with the hist ory
books. If you want fun and
motorcycles, stay with Cycl e
News ... every week .
