wit h the front of the bike? I would app reciate your opinion on the above. If you think this would take care of my pro blem, please advise me on the weight of oil to use and what spring rate I should use. Hoping to hear from you in th e near future, I remain, Mark W. Smith Williamsfield, Ohio Mark, I went over 10 Honda and stopped by the Racing Department and talked to a couple of the riders. What they are doing is running spacers on top of their fo rk springs and using anywhere from 10 to 30 weight fork oil. There are two types of fork oil that I use: the new silicon oil made by Poppy Co. and Molly Blue, mad e by the H.R.L. people. I would make t he spacers o ut of alumi num , about three quarter inch long. This will raise the spring back up to where it was before it sacked out. Hang in there. Amaco will have a fo rk kit in the near future th at should solve all your p rob lems. C'IJ 51 Dl:II THE SUPERBOWL LINE-UP a= Dl:II ~ g ;... Ken , o n a stock frame it's not wise to run a shock any longer than stock because it w iII throw off your frame geo metry. T he only shock I know of that d oe sn ' t fall in to this rule is the Curnutt lo ng travel shock which is built special for each rider's weight and use. F or yo u I would say a spring weight of 60/90 would be about right. I don't know how to tell you to figure out the right spring weight other than try them; If they're too soft you . will be bottoming out, if they're too stiff yo ur backsides will let you know in a short while. • ic ets on sa e no • July 31 deadline for vehicle registration By J uly 31 almost every motor vehicle in Califo rni a not carrying a license plate entitling it to use Californ ia stcets and highways must display an off-highway vehicle (ORV) identification sticker, Department of Motor Vehicles Director Robert Cozens reminded vehicle owners today. Renewal notices are being mailed this week to owners of 130,000 already -registered OHV's, he announced. A $ 15 renewal fee - good fo r two 'y ears and payable every even-numbered year - is due during July. Autho rities believe tens of tho usands of vehicles which are never placed on public pavement remain unregistered because their owners assume the OIlV registration law doesn't apply to them . B ut the law allows virtually no exemptions fro m the registration requirement except for some farm, logging an d special co nstruction rigs. Off-highway vehicles include all classes of motorcycles, minibikes, trail bik es, snowmobiles , du ne buggies and all-terrain vehicles. To be tow ed, o r transp or ted on a highway in another vehicle , they must display the OHV stic ker. Late registra tion penalties raise th e OHV fee to $18 after J uly 3 1st an d $3 0 af te r A ugus t 30th. Six d oll a r s of the two-year registration fee goes to t he State Departme nt of Park s an d Recr ea tion for the Off-High way Vehicle Fund . This fun d the n is ued fo r acquisition and deve lopme nt of faci li ties for o ff-h ighway veh icles, wi th local agencies contributing at least 25 percen t of the total cost. Of the balance of the registration fee, $5 is retained by DMV for administrative expenses and 54 IS rebated to cities and co unties. 29
