Earlier in the evening, it appeared to be Ed die Wirth's night. as the Triu mph-mo unted speeds ter set fastest qualifying ti me and won the Trophy Dash . Wirth took th e lead at th e start o f the Main , but it only to o k a lap fo r T o m Horto n (Yam) t o gra b that awa y . Morris ion (No r) passed Wirth on th e third lap to ta ke second, o nly to have Wirth re-pass him two laps hen ce. Morrison pu t aw ay Wirth for good two laps lat er and started gain ing ground on Horton . On th e eleventh lap, Morrison took up th e re spo nsib ility of bein g the lead er and R on Mo o re (Tri) moved up to third. Wirth fade d to fif th behind Bob Sanders (No r). All that action took place in five min utes, fifty-two seconds. It was Morrison's firs t Mai n event win as an Expert. . A pair of bikes bearing number 62 led the Juni ors into the first t um. 62 Z w as Alex Jo rgensen and he wasn't ab o ut to let an y body get in front of him, as he led from flag to flag. 62 G was Art F r e d e n b urg (Yam) fro m Phoenix, Ari zon a. He d idn' t wan t to let anybody in front of him , ei ther, but Walt Foster (T ri ) w as determined and th e in evitable pass o ccured on t he eigh t h lap, af t er a battle tha t m ad e so m e forget wh o was in the lead. Mik e Mye rs fin ished fourth. A two-stroke scream worth y of any Art Friedenburg got the drop on the Juniors, but Alex Jo rgenson (background) won it convincingly.
