Dietz took the win with Turner holding on for second (but just barely) with Moural getting a very close third . John Grant who got fourth in the 36 0 Expert Main tonight also won the Scratchman trophy a few weeks ago. To win this trophy you have to win three Handicap Main events from the sixty yard line. Grant becomes the tenth rider to win this trophy in Cycleland's eleven year history. • Results in Results Section. Quincy short track By Rex Backman QUINCY, CAL.,JUNE 2 The W.S.R.A. held their first of two sched uled races today on the Plu mas County Fairgrounds in Quin cy. A little more water wo uld have helpe d the 3/8 mile track. and some more track m ain tenan ce as t he course go t a little rough on T urns One and Two ca using m an y riders to crash as the day went on. With the rider turnout being above what the organizers expected the program ran two hours late. The 250 Expert race was delayed due to the bright sun the riders had to face coming out of the third turn. The 250 Junior ra ce was the most confusing of the day. Mike Lupoid took the lead followed by Bill Zirkle and Mike Freeman wi Ih Denn is ' Frisbie: in third, a good start c o nsid e rin g he came from the penalty line . The race was only three laps long as three riders ' went down wi th one rider needing to be taken to the hospital with a bad . shoulder. • Results in Results Section. The John and Chris act in formation at dusty Quincy oval . managed to be be hind h im in both races - even close in the Main. Junior Don Smith had to work around Jack Heeter to win his heat but led the Main all the way. Heeter finished fourth in the Main behind Bruce Hanlon and Tom Berry. Heeter took the Trophy Dash. Expert Charlie Brown poked his nose into the turn first but was suddenly looking at the backs of Dick Wascher, Doug Lien and Pat Marinacci, as they rode around au tside, He started picking them off and got in front just at the flag to win the first Expert heat. The se cond heat was halted when Mark Williams and Bob Bran um went down in the first turn. Williams got the win on the restart. In the Expert Main Williams grabbed the hole shot with Chuck Joyner on his rear fender the whole way. During the final lap Joyner made serveral threatening lunges but Williams held him off. Behind them Randy Skiver and Charlie Brown were playing the same game. Washington. Charlie whipped it out in 14.73 to establish his mark as a first year Ex pert while his proud parents beamed from the stands. It took ten heats to work through t he Novi ce ride rs. In the first heat Steve Eason was moved back twice fo r j umping the start. He worked all the way u p to win to earn a spot in the Main. Mark Smith picked up the big points. though. He cranked his Honda around the track to top spot in his heat plus wire to wire leads in both the Trophy Dash and the Main . Eason the list of injuries today was as long as your arm. The only relatively safe bunch was the Minis led by Duane Marker (Han) . The abundant 125 Juniors were run in three divisions again with Mike Monahan (Ha n ). Gregg Hughes (Hod ) and John Zeller (Su z) taking top honors. Bill Carpen ter ' was a double loser in the third division's first race. After he sorted his Honda out of a first turn pile-up he wound up c rashi ng in the final lap and was sen t to the hospital with a back injury. Kirk Williams and Ron Sun battled it out all day for top money in the 125 Pro . Kirk got the edge as each finished a soc and and third. Gary Sause (Han) in tho first 250 Junior group took the longest airborne trip of the day when he came over a drop-off and lit every way but up righ t. His bike fina lly dug in sideways and t hrew him abo ut 30 feet. He came o ut OK. Mark Ha mbelton (Yam) wo n this one. T he second 250 J unio r group was restarted in t he first mota when 10 bikes crunched together in the first turn . Mike Wobberly (Yam) was the winner. Mike also took the Open Junior win on a Honda. Bob Hamilton (Hus) limped to third with a flat tire in the first race and came back to win the-second for top 250 In term ed ia te brass.
