mak e su re th at th e rear whee l tr avel is 1"
less th an th e fr ont fork tr avel. An oth er po int is
the reinforcin g th at mu st be added to th e swing
ar m . Cover your bets by dr illing ex tra mounting
hol es o n the swing arm mounting pad
and frame gusset. Th is will give you ple nty of
room for expe r ime ntatio n. Wh ile makin g
th e modifications for forwar d mounted
shocks is easy. choosing a shock th at will wo rk
is something else! Note the d ifference in
angle between the stock mounting position
and the forward mounts. The shocks have to
wo rk harder and q uicker. Red uc ing the degree
of angle between the swing ar m pivot and the
upper shock mount puts a tremendous
work load o n the shocks. You ca n sink a fortune
into various kinds of shock flu ids. springs
and shock bodies before you find the
ri ght comb ination that will hol d up
under competition . Or you can use gas-fi lled
shocks like the factory teams have and
spend your time rac ing instead of
experimenting!
