The 125 Experts come off the line trying to decide the
state champ. It turned out to be Joe Williams - by two points.
the fina l lap, j us t m issin g the chance to .
take Mu zzy on the lin e . The finish was
Muzzy , Oliver and Huey.
In one of the greatest disp lays of
short track racing , Brad H urs t and his
CZ made it plain . that he can deliver
un d e r pressure. Hurst battled it o ut with
Mark Williams (Kaw) in the Open A
Main and came out on top. Williams was
righ t on his fender . Delbert Spinney
(Bul) and Mike Bailey (Yam) were very
close behind. jack Heeter (CZ) won the

Last but not least in a new class, The
A TC class, yes, ATC Hondas b litzing
Rick Burgett got off, pushed, still won both classes,
a ro u nd the
track, Kevin Norman
powered his w.ay to the win ners circle.
The end resu lts were much the same ,
though : Burgett way out in front with
Cook second. Bob Plumb (1\Iai) held
third all the w ay in this one. Early in
this race the hail came again and things
were getting worse all the time.
The Open class was almost a rerun of
the 250 ra ce: Bur gett and Cook in both
moros. Cook had some threats in the
second round. Ray Crawford (~Iai) and
Barney Newman [Mon] had a bailie for
second for half the race. Crawford
moved up to second twice and fell twice
when he got there. He eventually pulled
off with m e ch an ical problems. Newman
lost a firm grip on second when his
engine stuck. Cook inherited the
position but was way back afte r a bad
start.
.
Burgett had an unbelievable lead and
at one time was spotted on a back
corner cutting cookies. He ki lled h is
engine, visited w ith friends and sti ll
resumed racing with a big lead. R ic k
