Karsmak ers an d Staten we re ne ither fa r behind o r far ap art (so what else is new?). Ho lcomb had be en inv o lved in a first turn sc uf fle and was.rnaking up the los t ti m e in a brilliant ' display of speed. Staten was preparin g to swo op the Dutchman wh en h e lost it. To add injury to insult, the chai n came off a lap later, dropping him to tenth. Gr ossi continued in t he lead, Karm akers motored around in second with the Overall vict ory well in hand. Bryar Holcomb fin ally passed Grafton to take third. Karsmaker s got the overall win, followed by Grossi, Holcomb, Payne and Arizona's Chuck Lampe (Mai) . Lampe parlayed a fifth and a sixth into fo urth overall. Staten fini shed sixth. 500 Class Kenny Zahrt returned to California with a National Motocross victory in his pocket. He'll head back ea st next week with an AMA Qualifier victory add ed in . J im West (H us) to o k the early lead, follo wed by Zahrt. A few laps lat er, Ken was in th e lead . He j us t gassed it over the bumps and let the bike hop beneath him. Sm ooth. Mitch Mayes demonstrated Husky front wheel landing technique, ended up sixth overall. Mike Yorba (Mai) worked h is way up to thi rd, q ui te a d istance be hi nd the leaders. Mark Rodman (Yam) was in fo ur th , an d that 's how they fin ished . Zah rt didn 't was te any tim e taking the lead in t he secon-l moto as he ou t-p ulled West's Husky up the hill. Wayne Boyer, o n a GP CZ, was in third, fo llowed by Luke Messer. Milch Mayes (Hus) was pu ttmg desert expe rience to good use, go ing faster th an al mos t anyo ne else on th e downh ill, and occupying fift h.
