125 250 400 Cookin ' it on the Rawhide GP course. IX-DESERT eRe Rawhide GP 125 175 By Rex William Reese ELSI NOR E, CAL ., A PR . 7 Today was a day o f su rp rises for almost everyone. No one expected 400 riders to turn up for this 100% trophy affair. The starti ng area was to the north of the pits. The riders put th eir bikes on o ne line, then went bac k to ano the r line, for the uMan s start . T he fir st turn used part of the MX track, th en left for the · bac k c ou n tr y . T he co urse wound its way - through narrow trails and bushes, until it opened up a little fo r the riders to m ake th eir moves be fore t he y rea ched the first water hole. Upon rea ch ing the hole , lo ts o f guys, especially Beginners an d Novices, had too much spee d on th emselves an d woun d up slidi ng off the co urse , so me ti mes in to ob livion when th ey fell over t he side of th e cre ek bed an d into t he den se undergro wth. Mor e tigh t t rail led to anoth er water ho le , T his one was bigger than th e first . Waterproo fin g had to be perfect, or you could just write it all off. Some riders had th e waterproof job dialed in , others didn't, and they paid for their lack o f preparedness. The minibikers would hav e to have scuba tanks and snorkles to make it. Surprise of the d ay ! This hole hardly slowed the lit tle varmints a t all. They cha rge d that third a t full tilt lik e real troupers. The trail then went along a creek bed, an d started taking some interesting turns up hills and down hills. The course then swep t back to the pit area, leading down some more trails th at were really lumpy, bumpy and stumpy. Not to mention dusty. In the opinion of a lot of riders, this GP was pr etty rough w ith all those hill s and th e dust and water and such. But not La r r y Roeseler. Nope.
