You probably didn't know that Yamaha
had a 525cc road racer. Neither did we,
until Gene Romero lost a cylinder on his
700ccTZ750forty minutesaftersta rtingthe
FlyingHouratDaytona. However, Gene kept
going and still managed to set a new world
record of 150.6725 mph for the Flying
Hour;and a new world record of 150.4205
mph forthe Sta nd ing Start One Hour Run.
Naturally, these records are subjectto FIM -
4L..-
AMA confirmation. And we certainly hope
no one decides that a missing cylinder
constitutes an illegal modification to Gene's
otherwise stock TZ750.
Gene joinedthe Yamaha racing team
because he knew thatrarnahas hardly
ever break. And,ashejust proved,even a
broken Yamaha is a pretty fast bike.
