MX second, and aside from Mark, only one other guy ra cing in the t hird Open class. Only the last moto of thi s class is perhaps worth ta lking ab o ut. Mark on his super Honda 125 reall y had the trae k nailed down as he had it over his nearest , and only co m pe t ition (Harold Sampson ), mounted on a nearly box stock Honda XL 350. Even though he was the under dog, everybody on the tra ckside was rooting for him as he muscled the big Honda around the track. It was all to no avail. Mark would slow down once in awhile to let Harold catch up with him to make the race more exciting. . After the racing was all o ver, it took the scoring people only ab out five minutes to compile the re sul ts and th e winners were announced. This was definitely a good thing, showing that the scoring folks knew what they were doing. Prizes for winners were donated b y Hi Desert Honda of Yucca Va lley and the Yuc ca , Valley Search and Res cue Te am. Joshua Tree Ambulance donated their unit, which incidently didn ' t have to be used. The water truck used to make that gigantic w ater hole was donated by Dan Pekarovich, The track preparation was an all student effor t with Ron Cobb doing the t ractor j ob to it . Track officiating was done by parents and alumni students; and studen t volunteers did a really gre at job of flagging all the bad spots on the trac k. This event wasn't b ad for a first effo rt, considering that it was an all stu d en t effor t with a minimum o f t e ac h e r super vision. This wasn 't Irwindale or OCIR, and CMC didn't promote it - it was all due to the hard wor k, thinking and co ns iderab le efforts of a handful of students who had an idea and carri ed it out despite the huge odds agai nst them. Naturally enough , there were a few th ing s tha t need definite improvement, and there were a few things that don't need it because they were fine already. Mark Miller was the brain behind this thing, and ·he didn't do bad at all. He realizes that the bad things were bad and the good things were far out, His organization of the even t was great with no hassles at all , and perhaps better t han some of the bigger hig h school mo tocrosses that hav e been held. In fact, Mark was so pleased with the event that the y will hold another o ne in June. • Results M in i : 1. M ike Boldt (Yam) ; 2. Daryl Honore (H o n); 3. Pat Durosko (Hon) . 100: 1.
