Off the line in the deciding second round, Staten and Eierstedt co llided o ff the line and both went down. Rex damaged his shoulder and decide d no t to return. S k i p p in g lightly thro ugh the program, Ron Tripp (Han), swe pt to an impressive victory in t he Mini bike co mpetition, grand-slam ming the likes of second-placer Craig Van Cleve (Ka w) . T he program featured only tw o mo to s, hopin g to get the show over early. Taking the grand-slam victory at 100 Begin ner was Mark Waters. In a great race at 250 N ovice, Mike Sharaeff (CZ) , just nipped second place fin ish er Willia m R. Ho mes by 25 poin ts , 62 5 -60 0.
