CRCMX By The Shadow VALENCIA, CAL., DEC. 23 Desp ite the fact there were o nly two d ays le ft befo re Christmas, more than 2 00 MXers showed up to do battl e on the International Course as th e California Racing Club hosted a full card of moto cross. Park o fficials had the track in perfect cond iti o ns, with the most severe injury su ffered by CRC President Jerry McNeal, who fell over a fen ce while a tt empting to get to trackside with a cautio n flag. We understand McNeal is grouchy as a b ear, but will live to see another motocro ss race - with a cast on his righ t ankle . All three Ex per t classes were won via th e grand slam. Vin cent Clark, mounted on a Su zuki, did t he 125 trick acing out Bryan D od ge (H on). Jeff Blix, Honda -moun ted , did th e tr ick in 25 0, de feating second-p lac er Randy Stubbs ( Ya m) . C l o s in g o ut the Ex pe r t c omp e ti t io n, Gen e Mar tin ' (Mail. dropped second place fini sher Russell McAfee (BuI), with comparative ease . The big story at Interm edia te level was John Caper. Riding a H on da, Cap er swept to victory at both 12 5 an d 250 Intermediate levels. Caper wo n via the grand slam in 125cc, then dropped second-placer Jeff Sloan (YZ), by a so lid mar gin in 250cc. La rry Cheever (Yam) , was the Open winner defea tin g second p lace finisher Norman Payne (Mai). Next stories of in teres t were in the Minibike classes, where 25 co mpetitiors sh owed up to get in all the ridi ng they could prior to the World Minib ike Grand Prix. Ric k Hogl und, rid ing a Yamaha, won 60cc Minibike over close sec o nd place Sco tt Harris (Yam). Mu ch th e same cou ld be said for Ri ck y Simmons (Hon), wh o dropped second place finishe r R uss Eid e (S te), in a very good race at 8 0cc Minibike , 12 an d older. Still an oth er good rac e a t 8 0cc Minibike, II an d under , wh er e " Little Tough ie", J erry Little, riding a Honda, ace d o u t th e second member of the Simmons famil y , J immy, who was als o Honda-moun ted . Little, who rides lik e th e wind, is o nly nine-years-old, Mike Brown (In d), sp onsored by All ied Cycle of Newhall , zapp ed the field a t 100cc Mini b ike, with sec o nd place going to Ric ky Simmo n s, wh o rode a Kawasaki th is time. Dolly Hays, riding a Pen ton, wo n Powder Puff, bu t her pro udes t m omen t came in the 125 Beginner wh ere she placed th ird. That's third in a field o f 23 competitors. If yo u use yo ur finge rs real fast, Dolly knocked o ff 20 boys placing third. Both Veteran classes (Th em guys ove r 35-years-old.), were won via the grand-slam ro ute. Dick Camp (Tyr), did t he trick in 125 Veteran , wit h th e 25 0-Op en Veteran win going to Dale Cal hoon (CZ) . With our cZ's we offer features at a price any racer can afford .
