The Maicos ca me in and I p arked the CZ. CN: You still have the CZ ? Teri: Yes, but I want t o sell it. CN: What is your goal in life ? Teri: Just riding. CN: Any interest in b oys ? Te ri: Yes, all o f th em. I'm sti ll sh o p ping around. CN : Do the boys get made when y ou beat them ? Te ri : No, not usually. Most of them are pretty nice. CN: You've ridden all th e Pro Seri es rac es. What . are yo ur plans now th e series is over? Teri: Rid e the locals, then go to California. CN : Would y o u lik e to mo ve to California ? Teri: It w ou ld be n ice. I wan t to race there th is su m mer. CN: Well, California isn 't perfect bu t we do have so me o f the finest co mp eti tion in th e Uni te d S tates. The 125 cc class had so me of th e lo cal TT hot-shoes in actio n , with Man zan ita ace Pet er McCurdy taking a second place behind desert racer Dennis Kimball. T hird place was t ak en by Edmund LaPlante (o f Brain LaPlante fa m e) on a four-stroke H onda. The start was led by John Elsinore (Hon) , but he o versh o t the first tum with a stuck throttle. The tigh t-dust y co urse really sapped the p ower of the small bikes, but Kimball's reeded DKW p ulled aw a y fro m the pack to a co nvincing win . The 250cc clas s was taken by Ted Williamson , on a 125cc Husky, as his bike didn't start for the 125 race. Williamson , a local MX Expert, took the lead after a crash-filled first lap . After that, it was a ru n-away for Ted. However, the mi ddle of the pa ck ran close toge ther, unti l anothe r series of p ile-ups spread the bikes out until it was an end uranc e race. When a clas s has five pre-'72 250 Yamahas placing, things are a lit tle un ex citi n g! Th e Open clas s was far and above an ything run to this p oint: many riders; a fi rst-t u m pil e-up ; d icin g fo r position ; fast rid ing . First place was well-deserved by Kir k Collier, Arizona Numb er One 250 Am a t eur flat-tracker , on a d esert-m odified ' 72 36 0 Yamaha MX . The Val ley Motorcycle-sponsored 400 CZ o f J ay Lin eh an w as a closing seco nd p lace. He was award ed a trophy fo r th e most laps in practi ce ! Close behind w as Ro n Jackso n (Sun En gineerin g 400 Hus ky )' who was in volved in a sp ectac ula r fi rs t t urn crash wh en he was cen ter-p unch ed by a 4 5 0 Du cati. The Du ca ti (rid den by Ralph Nola n) su ffere d a severely tw isted fron t end and was ou t o f th e race. Jackso n coo ked t he co urse and made up enough ti me to ca p tu re third pla ce . As an ad de d attrac tio n , th e 4 0 0 Su zuki deser t sidehack of Pete Weke U (A .H. T ellie r assisting ) ran th e Open clas s and nipped over backwards with a wide o pen thro ttl e.
