First, the Benelli Six will be produced in Italy. DeTomaso had threatened to move his factories to France if the Italian government allowed Honda to manufacture in 1 taly. The Italian government subsequen tly denied such permission to Honda in view of this threatened move. As for the "dummy cylinders" on the 750, I suggest you speak with Joe Rottigni, our Technical Manager, who has just returned from the Benelli factory, where he rode. both the 500 F our and 750 Six. We would invite you, too, to ride it if you have any occasion to be in Italy. It is truly a sensational motorcycle. You must remember that this machine has progressed very quickly from drawing board to prototype to finished machine. For this reason, the show model you saw may not have been entirely functional. We can assure you, first hand, that it is a real motorcycle, possessing excellent performance, handling, and style. Benelli's claim for delivery in four months js entirely realistic. Under DeTomaso's guidance, BeneUi has tremendously improved both manufacturing facilities and schedules. We invite you to road test the 750 when we receive our initial shipmen t this spring. We hope this will clear up any questions you or your readers may have regarding this soon to be landmark in mo torcyeling. RICHARD BROOKS Advertising Manager Cosmopolitan Motors Inc. Barboro, Penn. What I saw made me very unhappy and ruined my ,day of riding, it was trash. Trash was spread everywhere in sight and I couldn't believe what I was seeing. 1 don't know whether-or not other riders give a damn but it would please me and a lot of other concerned friends of mine to see a day organized especially for cleaning up such spots as High Vista. Now I see why the Sierra Club feels the way they do. SCOTT HARRlS Valencia, Calif. That Ve Not Be Judged If one can judge others by the company they keep, your tiresome columnist Papa Wealey must be a super jerk. Anyone who would extol the virtues of the likes of Evel Knievel, the biggest phony in the world of motorcycles, or Mike Goodwin of Media.Max promotions, needs his head examined. Motorcycling is in enough trouble without these three. The. sport in particular could do without the get·rich-quick and, at-any-cost tactics of Goodwin. His track record here in Northern California includes playing on.e motorcycle group against another, screwing up a perfectly good annual event like the TransAMA at Carnegie Cyele Park, craming a very danger9us and unmanageable track like Goden Gate Fields in to the 1974 AMA national championship schedule, and in general giving the sport a bad name. Obviously Papa Wealey had had no business dealing with Goodwin, or he'd be signing a different tune.
