Doug Couzens took the lead right away. but Mark Miller was right on his tail until in the sixth lap when Miller made his move and took over first. On the last lap Miller fell and hard charging Couzens took the checkered flag first, followed by Gary Praster and Mark Detter. The second moto Couzens again took first, followed by Detter and Praster talUng second and third. Couzens led the moto but on the last lap he fell and enabled Praster to take the win. Couzens got back up just in time to edge Detter out for second place. Dan McReilly won all three motos in the 125 Beginner class followed by Clint Charman with three seconds. The 125 Expert class was won by Dave Camp. Harry Warr (Dirty Harry) won the 100 Junior class on his Yamaha. The 100 Beginner class was really something to watch today because there were two Minis in this class. The fITst moto saw Mark Allee, Yamaha 100, and Joe Spangler XR-75 battling it out the whole race. Joe charged hard at the finish line but couldn't get past Allee. Ernie Townsend took third. The second moto Allee and Spangler again battled out, but this time Spangler charged a little harder at the finish and edged Allee out for first in the moto. In the last moto Spangler fell and was unable to continue so Ronie Townsend, also . riding an XR·75, took over the lead and held it to the end, with Allee and Pat Longfellow following. Alee took the overall win. • (Pen) did double duty here today finishing second OA in the 125 diVision behind Zahrt. Zahrt took the fITst two motos with ease in the 500 Senior division and crossed the wire fITst in the third, but was disqualified there for leaving the track on the first turn. Overall honors went to Dick Hicks (Mai), Zahrt took second and Randy Berkeley (Mai), also doing douhle duty, was third. Very notable OA victories were turned in by 100 Beginner Frank Roos (Yam) and 125 Junior Greg Oesch (Hon) by capturing division honors with clean sweeps of their events. Clean sweeps were gained by 250 Beginner Brett Wilkinson (CZ), 250 Intermediate ,Tony Lanzarone (Mai), and 500 Intermediate John Miller (Mai). • Moreno Valley MX By Keith Patten SUNNYMEAD, CAL., NOV. 17 Well for all you people who didn't want to race today because you figured that since it was raining at your house it would be raining everywhere else, you were wrong. It didn't rain at De An:la, in fact the weather and the track condition combined to make a great day for 'crossing with Moreno Valley M.C. Today was also a great day for Randy Rios who won the large trophy for earning the highest point total in a nine week period. Randy won by a large margin. He will hold the M.V.M.C. number one plate for the next nine week period. December 1 will start the new point run for another big trophy so come on out, Try us you'll like us! Another good thing happened today was, the Tareo man was out and he donated cans of chain lube to all the first place guys in all classes. Mike Stevenson won all three motos in the Open Junior class. . The 250 Beginner class was won by Randy Lincoln and Tim J ones took second. Wayne Franz and'John Petrey were tied going into the last moto and they knew it. because they were both riding hard, then Petrey fell and gave Franz third place all to himself. John Field won the 250 Junior class. Randy Rios took second in the class. The 250 Expert class was won by ReRie Dunlap on his CZ. The 125 Junior claaa wu the race to By The Shadow STODDARD VALLEY, CAL., NOV. 4 William Sears (CZ), proved to be the toughest competitor in Stoddard Valley on Sunday, as the Riverside-based California Racing Club decided on a four-hour Hare -Scrambles to get 'riders in shape for the Barstow to Vegas Race. In addition to be in g the first overall competitor, Sears was number one Open Novice, second place in the event going to Dennis Hill, who was second Open Novice competitor. The test was so tough, only 30 competitors finished the race (we hope things will improve a bit come the Barstow to Vegas Race). A big surprise came way down at 24th overall, where Sigrid McAllister (Ric), took honors as number one Powder Puff competitor, Unfortunately, her husband, Dan, was among the DNFs. I wonder what that means? And there was even a Minibiker who finished the tough race, Billy Sears (it figures, his dad was number one), was the first in the Minibike class. Perhaps we should enlarge on that just a bit tough Billy was the only Minibker finisher. And to round out the other- top riders within the Top 10 finishers, Bob King (Suz), finished third overall and was first 250 Novice, while C. Ahuero (Bul), was fourth overall and second 250 Novice. • "' , . , , -
