Ken Brown survived to take third. Jerry Bowers put his thumping 500 MX BSA to work on the short course and won the Open Expert battle with Dave Butts showing for second on the Sonny Kenyon 325 Bultaco. Barry Lawrence rode to the win in the Open Novice run. It will be his last as he got his card signed to Junior. He is one of the better rough scrambles operators and will give the Juniors a hard shot. In the lightweight Novice ranks, the Orozco boys swept the first two spots on the 100 Novice ranks while the day's toughest competition came in the 125 Novice ranks. Nick McBride rode to the win after winning the second of three heats. The other two-heat race winners, Frank Acosta and Mike Montgomery also made the trophy ranks with Bill Railsback also finishing in the money from the outside. The Minibikers were also out in force. John Bratten won two trophies as did Ricky Sorenson. , III I II = III CYCLE WORLD FIRST INTERNATIONAL OBSERVED TRIALS u_ C(") r-- SUNDAY JANUARY 6,1974 a'l .. SADDLEBACK PARK - Record Indoor Entry By Bill Spencer SAN JOSE, CAL., NOV. 24 Thanksgiving weekend should have taken some of the heavy load of rider turnout away from the weekly indoor series but it came out just the opposite for a Saturday niRh!. The fourth of six races is shaping up well for the assault on the Cow Palace coming up Saturday night, March 2nd. Taking over the lead chores were Larry Drew in the 250 Expert and Dennis Robinson in the 360 Expert, both with 17 poin ts. These two are also leading the overall short track series in District 36 competition. Robinson is a runaway in the bigger class with Jerry Kole five poin ts back while Drew is even farther ahead with a six point advantage over Steve Eklund. The best part of the 250 class is that in the four races, not one rider has won ,more than once and the consistency game is the name. Robinson, on the other hand has won twice and finished second the 0 ther two times. T!le 250 Junior class turned out the most entries with 42 and the action was hot and heavy. Frank Nye came out the winner despite much crashing and bashing. It was only his second trophy but was worth enough points to rocket him into third place while point leader Geoff Lowe and second spot Mike Panzica weren't in the trophy'run. Bob Stuscavage tangled with Mickey Sickle in the middle of the 8 Iapper and Sickle came out the worse for wear while Mitch Perri got underneath to fmish third behind Stuscavage, and just in front of Vince Amaral and Kenny Jackson. Dennis Sickle' came out to win his third main event in the 175 Novice class. He has been the most consistent rider by trophying all four outings and will probably be the man to beat in that class when the sportsmen take over the Cow Palace in March. - \ ~=><=============::::";"4 ~ .-.
