Sure, he likes Roger and Adolf and admires them a lot as do most of the American racers who know them, but it is really tempting to say that Jim had this thing won. He had a 352 Bultaco that was a bunch lighter than the 400 heavyweight he had been campaigning in the series and seemed to be getting the same, or better, power to the ground. Skip Kreb. and Arnie Beamon had been preparing it, and Jim was ready to do the whole thing, double moto victories. Jone. hasn't gotten any worse on his starts, though, even if his results haven't been their usual devastating selves. There are some other fast guys around, too. Like Gary Semics, winner of the firs~ Minibike International (Complete story next week if the pix come out), who was second on a 360 Hwqvama. Then Adolf aced them both in one long pass after a lap and moved into the lead. J ones and Semic••tayed two-three for a long time. At this point, two of the main characters in this unfolding contest, namely DeCoster and Pomeroy, were running about sixth_and tenth, not too promising. Pierre Karsmalters, who i. basking in the strobe lights of National Championship-ness, was buried back in the pack. Bob Wright got the clutch working on his CCM and went fast - ~ry fast. In fact be was over his bead and hit first a haybale and then Arne Kring who admonished the young Englishman with gen t1emanly hand sign. to cool it. Wright was pumped and jumped back up and tore off down the hill. He Itept going fast and did not crash again to finish fifth in the mota.
