III' •••• "" C' San Jose Indoor ENTER•.• THE COMMUTER SAN JOSE, CAL., NOV. 16 The third round on indoor action was considerably more exciting on the arena floor than it was outside the arena last week. The riots had died down and the racing was hot with nearly 300 attempting to conquer the 1/12th mile asphalt. Larry Drew proved that he is THIS TWQ-UP SEAT AND FAIRING COMBINATION WILL TRANSFORM YOUR MOTORCYCLE INTO CONTOURS AND PERFO~MANCEOF CAFE STYLING. THE COMMUTER IS AVAILABLE NOW FOR YOUR 350 OR 500 YAMAHA. SEND FOR FREE LITERATURE. DEALER INQUIRIES INVITED. the master of the short track and won the 250 Expert to further his hold on the No. 1 white plate. Drew leads the class with 13 points over Chuck Miller's 8. The combined series here, at Santa Rosa and in the Cow Palace on March 2 may well see Drew also crowned as the indoor sportsman champ of his class. Thirteen differen t champs will be decided on that night and with three races down, the points are starting to show the more consistent riders. Rich Luhdorff is one such young man. A new rider this year, Luhdcirff is leading the 200 Novice class with 10 pain ts and is running second to Randy Mamol" in the 100 Novice, 8-7. Rich rides a 200 Triumph cub very well and could be quite a terror for the entire series. Another consistent finisher is Dennis Sickle, having won .two and finisher second in the other. Leading overall in pain ts is Geoff Lowe in the 250 junior class. This may well be the most competitive class what with over 40 riders entered each night. While Geoff is comfortably ensconsed in the lead with 14 points to Mike Panzica's . nin.e and Mickey Sickle's seven, it would only take one race to knock him out of contention.. In the 360 Expert run, Jerry Kole came out the winner tonight to take over second spot in that class wi th Dennis Robinson holding the lead with 13. Steve Hernandez with 8 is only one poin t behind in third and tha t iace for top honors is up for grabs. Coming up with a different winner every time is the 125 junior class. Bob Miner won the Open with Vince Alvarado the second and Hank Souza tonigh t. The only rider to score twice has been Mark Allen and so he leads with 6 points over Souza's 5 for one win. Coming up with two wins and one second for three rounds is Bob Silva in the 250 Novice run. Bob also maintains the No. 5 blue plate hil1climber and so will most likely not stay as a Novice too long, and Dan Contteas would be the happiest sitting in second spot. • MIKE PLUNKETT PRESENTS BAYMARE THE NEW BAYMARE IS BETTER THAN SHE EVER WAS! "Lack of support," was the reason given by CRC President Jerry McNeal, who added, "I guess 100, percent cash payback to Experts in all displacements and 20 percent trophies to the remaining classes just wasn'l enough to draw the good turnout." It's rather unfortunate, as the CRC does run a good program. In this day and age, it's always amazing to see how many Experts have no need for money. 1 guess there's so much' of ·it running' loose in motocross circles, .Experts don't· have to get out to many races any more. Anyway,. the hottest competit;io'1 on this, the final night at OCIR for the . CRC, was the 250 Novice class, where Bob Warren, mounted' on a Yamaha,. aced out the active class.. In the only, other Novice competition, George Erl, also mounted on a Yamaha, was a winner at 125 Novice. ., Finally, David Oller (Ste), rolled his way to a victory in the Minibike class over a small, but farily active group of competitors. . • W ITTI.
