Petty came to race, and when the rest of his Minibike class bowed out due to the mud and water, Mike talked the NRA into letting him ride with th~ 100 Beginners. The kid actually beat the field on the lust moto, but then the ","vere conditions began to take their toll, Petty grabbing third on his second ride, and fourth on his third ride to net a third overall in the 100 Beginner class - but Mike was crowned "King of the MinJbikers" for the Sunday. And there were Experts on hand too. Dav~ Kolbe, a Honda Jockey, grabbed first place at 125 Expert, with second place money going to Eddie Cole (Pen). Danny LaPorte (Pen), rated one of the better 125 Experts, decided to by pass th~ tricky coune after practice was over. Brett Rooke (Honda), ruled the 125 Interm~diate clasL Jim O'Neal grabbed all the money at 250 Expert, when LaPorte, again mounted on a P~nton, bowed out after one moto. Larry Thompson (Yam), took the first place trophy at 250 Intermediat~. J~ff "The Wrecker" Wecker (Kaw) , nLled the Open Expert clasa with ~ase with second place money going to Danny McFarland (CZ). Ron DeSoto (CZ), showed up, but chose not to risk his bad knee on the tough track today. Resa Benson (CZ), was numb~r one man at Open Intermediate. As for the Novice·rank~d riders, Rufus Kerr (Hod), was "King of the Mud" at 100 Novice; Greg Oesch (Hon), ruled at 125 Novice; Paul Reasoner (Hon), finish~d Irrst at 250 Novke; and Steve Smith (Suz), was Irrst-placer at Open Novice. •
