.• Superfun Motocross ... I II • By Tom Corley I II IRVINE, CAL., NOV. 24 = ~ The Saddleback track was so slippery for Superfun Motocrossin' Saturday that the Mini-crossers to the Experts were turned into masters of the full-lock slide with their feet being on the pegs as their 3.50 to 4.00 knobbies lost grip out of every FOR RACERS ONLYI Do it in the dirt with the Dirty Cam Company's dirt·1JD cyde cams. Call or _ite tor fill ..... comer: Now the only question that one may have asked whjle slippin' around on the Sad track is how is it goin' to be this comin' Sunday for the final event in the Trans-Am series, and how are those European stars goin' to keep their machines from pitchin' sideways and fallin'· if the track is just as wet? I t may be no problem for the stars next week but it created a lot of bike bogging in the mud and head first falls for most of the sportsman racers today. As for the Experts things were more challenging as Jerry Trojnar of the 250 class gassed out of the pack and led the racing for another pocket full of cash. He's out at Saddleback Park every Saturday and is usually challenged by Frank Steiner on a Yamaha special. This time his racing was against 'Richard Franklin (who has been a super CZ racer in the past and was on a Yamaha today) and Dennis Chandler who was mounted on a CZ. Another fast racer in this combined class, Gary Tomczak on a CZ in the 250 Novice class, had "U.S. Racing" on the back of his jersey. What did this mean, did he think he was goin' to be on the U.S. team in the Trans-Am? His bike had a yellow plastic tank and he sat on a trick blue covered seat which looked sharp, now if he just doesn't have the CZ seat fall off problem. It was Trojnar, Chandler and Franklin on the 250 Experts overall list while Tomczak whipped the 250 Novice class against Rod Cowell and Terry Hugueley. • ,. mU~T=CC Bultaco International Ltd. P.O. Box 62547 Virgin~ Beach, VA 23462 / Orange Bowl MX By Tom Corley EL TORO, CAL., NOV. 23 Marty Moates struck the Orange Bowl of Motocross at Orange County International Raceway Friday and blew away the 250 Expert class with a trick day'-glo painted Honda. Moates said the fine motocross machine has fired off in near 50 motos without a breakdown! Moates, being the fastest motocross cat to live around the San Diego area, has two super mechanics to trick ou this Elsinore and make it haul, stay bolted t.ogether, and win money like tonight at / the Orange Bowl of Motocross; Jim Pileggi and Frank Esparza are the wrenches. His monopoly in the 250 Expert class tonight proved it was no problem even though up against some rapid 'crossers like Dennis Briggs, (who rips on a fine handlin' Kawasaki 250), Mike Winters, (who Maico muscled it for B&V Motorycles), and Bryan Justice who gasses a CZ. Now while Moates was cleanly ahead in all motos, Winters was behind Briggs in the second moto which proved to be the bring out the worst eat of this class when the treacherous diving-board jump picked Bryan Justice for its victim. All I saw was boots and helmets and Bryan Justice and his CZ doin' cart-wheels. It for sure hurt this fast racer's placing 'cause when the results were typed out it stated a Marty Moates, Dennis Briggs and Mike Winters 250 Expert win. Other wins that came to be tonight were Mike Raines who used a Miller Mano pipe to exhaust on the 125 Novice c1a!js over Mike Higgenbotham and Mik.e Dannelly (all on Hondas), while a common go-fast MX'er Dave Orozco used a CZ to win the 500 Intermediate class. He was headin' off the show and block.ed off Craig Adams (Hus) and Tom Watson (Mai) from the top tall troph y. • JIM DAVIS MOTOCROSS EQUIPMENT CENTURION MOUTH ~UARO...... SHOULDER PADS......
