Ask for Wendy, Trudi or Tom: • I But the Congress was also presented with a revolutionary new formula for the championship, which if passed by the Spring meeting of the F1M in March, would be implemented in 1975. The provisional proposals did not make allowance for any riders from the United States to compete but I am sure that changes would be made before the formula came into practice. The idea is for eight preliminary meetings to be held in Great Britain, Sweden, Germany, Poland, Hungary, Italy, Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia. A total of 128 riders would compete... 15 from England, Poland, Sweden and the USSR; 11 from Czechoslovakia; eight from Germany; six from New Zealand; five from Australia, Norway, Denmark and Hungary; four for Austria and Finland; three from the Netherlands, Italy, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia and Rumania. The top eigh t scorers from each meeting would' go through to four quarter finals in England, Germany, Czechoslovakia and Poland. The top eight from these would progress to two semi finals in Germany and the USSR. The leading seven from each semi [mal would contest the final (in England) along with two riders seeded direct by the host coun try. The formula is certainJy an in teresting one and would give every coun try a fair chance. Many would like to see more than one actual [mal, with the champion being the rider with the highest number of points over three or four meetings, and there is no reason why this couldn't be done, too. The championship is in need of revision. It remains to be seen whether the Track Racing Commission of the FIM agrees to go ahead and make the suggested changes bu t they seem to be the most sensible propolals put forward so far. John Louis of England faces a 12-month han from international events as a result of the British ACU being told to reconsider his case. Louis was originally let off after being found guilty of using a fuel additive in the British·Nordic Final at Coventry last August. Louis qualified for the European Final but was barred from competing at the last minute and withdrawn by the Speedway Control Board in England. Now the FlM bas told the ACU in Britain (which governs the Control Board) to administer a proper punishment on John. It seems certain that the FIM will accept' nothing less than a year's suspension. The Russian, Vladim.ir Gordeev, was banned for a year after
