Eierstedt wins Support The Old Man of the Motos, Adolf Wen, did it again. Karsmakers. This was Frans Karsmakers, Pierre'. little brother, riding a bike borrowed from his brother througb Yamaha. In second was Jan Johansson, a Husky factory development rider. Both were quickly displaced by Gerrit Wolsink who charged to the front trying to escape Weil, who was coming up througb the pack behind him. Although he fell back rapdily at first, Frans Karsmakers held on, running in the top ten until his bike apparently quit. He gave way to his brother, Geboers, and Bauer on the fifth lap. Wei! banged away, finally getting past Gerrit Wolsink, who was then passed by Bauer, Geboers and Karsmakers. Behind Wolsink, things began to sort themselves out. Johansson led Kring, Peter Lamppu (Kawasaki's only remaining Great Green Hope), Tim Hart, Rich Thorwaldson, Tarao Suzuki, and Marty Trip.es, who worked up into the top ten about the same time that Weil, with a big lead, lapped him. The top six remained the same to the end. Everyone seemed to expect Pierre to put on a big charge to bid for the win, but he never did it. He came around on one lap with his engine loaded up, but it had cleared off by the following tour. In the closing laps, Hart passed Lamppu for seventh and Tripes managed to get in front of Suzuki and stay there. His previous pass had been undone when he stalled in the mud hole. It's beginning to look very much like Adolf Weil's series. The guys who can beat him don't 'seem consisten t enough to make it count. The consistent guys aren't fast enougb. Tim Hart took over the top American points spot this week with Weinert's misfortune. 8 Results 1. Adolf Weil (Mai) 2-1. 2. Pierre Karsmakers (Vam) }-3. 3. Willi Bauer (Mal) 3-4. 4. I Rich Eierstedt combined a third and a sixth with a final moto win for top Support dass cash. By John .0. Ulrich Support Class Robert Plumb (Hon) led the first three laps of the first Support class moto. Bryar Holcomb (Bul), who held third away from the start, moved past Rich Eierstedt (Hon) into second on the second lap of the 12-lap moto. Ou the next lap, Holcomb continued his move by taking- the lead from Plumb. Eierstedt, and Bill Grossi (Kaw) quickly moved up as Plumb started falling back towards a ninth place finish. Holcomb never actually lost his lead as Grossi and Eierstedt diced for second. However, on the tenth lap, Grossi strongly challenged Holcomb. Holcomb anet Grossi ran side by side down the smaller downhill leading into a massive mudhole by the curve next to a ~mall lake with ducks floating around on it. Holcomb broke through the berm between he and Grossi and Grossi was knocked into the water. It took four guys to get the sodden Kawasaki out of the waist deep mud and goo, as Grossi watched Holcomb hold the lead 'till the finish. Bill Clements (hus), who had moved LIP steadily from about seventh at the start, nabbed second from Eierstedt on the last lap. After taking the checkered flag, Holcomb rode down to the mudhole to see how Grossi and his bike were doing. 'Clements led from the gate in the second moto un til he crashed on the third lap. Grossi, who was right behind him, took over the lead with Ron Self (Mai) second and Holcomb third, having . moved up from a fifth place start. Clements quickly remounted and began' an incredible charge towards the leaders. He blasted up from his sixth place restart into second within three laps. It was Grossi's turn to fall, and he finished 24th as a result. Self then took over the lead with Holcomb ·second, and when Self dropped out of the race it was Holcomb with Clements second. John Borg (Yam), who finished seventh in the first moto, stole third from Gaylon Mosier (Hon) on the last lap, and that's how they finished. Clemen ts crashed at the start of the third moto, got going again dead last, and proceeded to pass 13 riders in a fantastic battle up to eighth place by the time the 20-minute moto was over. Clements passed, passed, and passed again; passing on downhills, jumps, even passing John Borg in the mire mudhole. Borg was able to get back past Clements thougb, and held onto a seventh place finish. Holcomb stalled his bike after hitting another rider on the first lap, and it took three flagmen to push start his bike on the wet track. By the time he was moving again, he was so far back he finished in front of only one other rider. With Holcomb out of contention, Eierstedt led from lap one to the end. Tom Rapp (BuI) and Gaylon Mosier fougbt for second until Grossi, on the move from a bad start, worked his way up to them. Grossi slid around the flat outside the berm without backing off, keeping the' gas on all the way where other racers backed off goinginto the turn and gassed it coming out. Grossi took second on lap eigb t and started chasing Eierstedt, but at the flag he was still in se,cond. Mosier zapped Rapp for third. Overall; Eierstedt won, with Clements second, and Mosier third. 8 Results 1. Richard Eierstedt (hon) 3·6·Y. 2. Bill Clements (Hus) 2·2·8. 3. Gayle" Mosler (Hon) 6-4-3. 4. John Borg (Vam) 8-3-6. 5.
